<div dir="ltr">Version 1.0 of the board layout is complete. I am in the process of obtaining quotes for the bill of materials and cost to produce the board from contract manufacturers. The end result would be that people can place orders for the board modules directly with the contract manufacturer and thus be able to purchase these boards for only $20-30 depending on quantity. There would also be an open source hardware project on github where people can produce variations on the designs.<div><br></div><div>The crazy idea here is that the board would be produced on demand with a minimum quantity of say 10 units for a total of ~$280. Since nobody is holding inventory this would eliminate a layer of profit-taking and pass the savings on to the buyer.</div><div><div><br></div><div>If funded successfully the Indiegogo project will raise the funds needed for the initial manufacturing setup and testing as well as sell maybe 100 boards for the initial production run.</div><div><br></div><div><div><div><div><div>Anyway, I would like to visit Sudo room sometime and check out your new space. <p>it looks like a pretty cool OS, but $500k seems a little steep for developing another raspberry pi OS mashup. how do you envision that money being allocated? are there free alternatives that people will choose over this one? I like the concept of pre-packaging alot of software in an sd card image for newbies and I think generally people will be willing to pay extra for that at least until enough copies are distributed for it to be readily available as a torrent. good luck and keep us posted!</p>
