host Hardware Hacking Tuesday at 7pm in case I am late or unavailable.<br>

It's easy, you just say hello to new people and tell them about the space,<br>

think it makes sense.<br>

The heated room balcony is a great idea. It may be easier to make it<br>
structurally sound if you use insulation panels. At Home Depot, polystyrene<br>
panels 4x8' are around $8 and Polyiso high-insulation panels are $20 1" or<br>
$30 2". Those are going to allow you to cut an exact room out that will<br>
last and are similar to what is used to construct Hexayurts if you have<br>
heard of those being used in the desert for example. I would be glad to<br>
help with the build.<br>

-an old 1500W bionaire bh3950 space heater that I was going to use to<br>
make a shitty kotatsu, would draw ~15 amps so would need to have its own<br>
cord to a lightly loaded circuit.<br>
-some clear 6 mil poly sheeting, not sure how much left but is 10' wide<br>
and would make a good translucent wall for the hack mezzanine<br>

would be good to span the 8' without any other support. otherwise the<br>

so ago. They love the space and what we are doing and decided to apply to<br>
be a member collective. They will be at the delegates meeting on Thursday<br>
to answer questions. Please discuss their application with your<br>
collectives. *<br>

1. Mission Statement<br>
<br>
THE MESS is a theatre troupe and collective of writers, dancers, singers,<br>
actors, and mischief makers who are out to do comedy that is a reflection<br>
of the Bay Area’s diverse culture.<br>
<br>
2. Origin and Group History<br>
<br>
THE MESS is a sketch comedy troupe based in California's East Bay with<br>
writers, dancers, singers, actors, and mischief makers from all over the<br>
globe. In Fall 2011, Renée LeVesque and a group of theatre folks began<br>
hosting a weekly pirate radio show on Radio Valencia in San Francisco. What<br>
they quickly discovered is that doing live action theatre was their real<br>
passion. They began asking the question, what if instead of trying to<br>
convince a big theatre to do a show we liked, we just did our own show with<br>
people whose work we enjoyed? What if we cast people who were not only<br>
great actors, but willing to take risks and perform parts they normally<br>
wouldn’t get cast for? What if we created a room for comedy writers that<br>
was welcoming, where they could collaborate on scripts rather than compete<br>
for stage time? The group rented space for trade at Chez Poulet, a<br>
warehouse in San Francisco’s mission district. They rehearsed, pooled their<br>
resources, and on Valentine’s Day 2012 put on their very first show at<br>
Stage Werx SF.<br>
<br>
As of 2015, the group has moved to the East Bay, expanded its troupe to<br>
include over 30 performers, directors, writers, and designers. Each show is<br>
a collective effort with each member contributing to the performance from<br>
its creation to final bow. Everyone works, everyone participates, everyone<br>
has a seat at the comedy table with a focus on performances that celebrate<br>
the Bay Area’s diversity, and create immersive comedic experiences with a<br>
lean toward the theatrical.<br>
<br>
3. How would you participate in and contribute to the Omni?<br>
<br>
THE MESS would like to be the house performance troupe at The Omni Commons.<br>
To us that would mean participating in open houses, community outreach and<br>
any other collective activity that The Omni hosts. We would also have<br>
representatives participate in improving/repairing the Ballroom Space, the<br>
Disco Room, and helping to maintain the other common spaces. THE MESS would<br>
also host workshops, classes, and performances at The Omni to increase<br>
interest and appreciation for the space itself and for the collectives that<br>
call the Omni home.<br>
<br>
4. How does your collective support itself financially? What would you be<br>
able to afford in rent?<br>
<br>
THE MESS sells tickets to each show at the rate of $15 plus (sliding<br>
scale). Our ticket sales average 40- 60 people per performance. We plan to<br>
use ticket sale revenue to help the Omni with its expenses. At present, we<br>
can afford $300 per month total plus a share of the common expenses such as<br>
utilities. If we are able to increase programing in 2016 (shows, workshops,<br>
etc.), we would be able to discuss contributing more.<br>
<br>
5. What are your space needs, especially for dedicated (locked or not<br>
shared) space?<br>
<br>
Ideally, we would like to steward, share and help improve and maintain the<br>
Disco Room. Essentially, our typical needs are average 3 to 4 nights a week<br>
in the evenings from approximately 6PM to 10PM.<br>
<br>
In addition, we would volunteer to help coordinate the calendar for other<br>
events that the Collective, Delegates and Commons wish to hold in the Disco<br>
room. Improvements, we would like to build include a locked cabinet<br>
(approx. 8 feet x 8 feet) in the Disco Room to store equipment, props, and<br>
costumes.<br>
<br>
Any other improvements we can help assist to support the Omni in renting<br>
out the space to other groups in the community.<br>
<br>
6. Statement of Solidarity<br>
We, The Mess agree and are committed to the Omni Collective’s shared<br>
political vision of more equitable communing of resources and meeting human<br>
needs over private interests or corporate profit. If accepted as a member<br>
collective, we promise to adhere to the Collectives’ solidarity and<br>
anti-capitalist political perspective. The Mess has always and will<br>
continue to practice openness, diversity and community through the arts and<br>
in general practice.<br>

Please join me this Saturday 1/9 at 7pm at Omni Commons to share and<br>
reflect on the untimely passing of a good friend. I'd really like to<br>
discuss informally with others some ways to respond to this situation in<br>
our community.<br>
<br>
For anyone who had the privilege to meet Goto during his brief visits to<br>
Omni Commons and Sudo Room this fall, I have some sad news:<br>
<br>
On November 14th of 2015, Goto and another person were found off the 101 in<br>
Richardson Grove near Garberville. They had been ejected from a car that<br>
came off the highway heading North. The highway patrol was unable to<br>
identify which of the two men were driving and no criminal charges were<br>
pursued. Goto was found deceased on the scene, the other person was<br>
seriously injured and transferred to a hospital.<br>
<br>
According to the Humboldt County Coroner I spoke with, this second person<br>
was in a coma and probably did not come out of it. The CHP was not willing<br>
/ able to provide me with any contact information of this other person or<br>
their family, and I have been unable to proceed further on this thread.<br>
<br>
I was also informed by the Coroner that there was alcohol found in the<br>
blood of both victims. The CHP reported alcohol was found in the car as<br>
well.<br>
<br>
It is certainly unclear what exactly happened, what precisely led to this<br>
crash, but regardless, this is a very sad tragedy, and most importantly,<br>
Goto will be sorely missed.<br>
<br>
For those that did not know him, you are very welcome to join and learn<br>
about a dear friend and comrade who has left us in body, but not in spirit.<br>
<br>

It sounds like kind of a noisy, hellish place, what with the server<br>
noise, the claustrophobia, to say nothing of the high density of geeks,<br>
but I guess I'm pretty well insulated so I'm failing to see the charm.<br>
That typed, I do have a truck for transport, and a few spare tarps left<br>
over from Occupy as well as some spare lights and power strips that<br>
would be required to make such a place semi-habitable. Give me a holler<br>
if and when you want this to happen.<br>

It appears that it is fire retardant for our purposes, however, if the<br>
balcony under it were to catch fire, and the polyisocyanurate were caught<br>
up in the conflagration, you would want to leave to avoid breathing the<br>
fumes from the superheated polyisocyanurate as they would be toxic.<br>
<br>
But I think we should use transparent material for the north and west<br>
sides, so that the space is visually inclusive. I can bring in<br>
large single-pane windows and we can stick it all together.<br>

I think there is also another over all problem. When I was trying to use<br>
the Type-A machine<br>
there was a intermittent popping sound. I read this is caused by the PLA<br>
absorbing moisture from the air. In the long run we should build a storage<br>
box with silica gel in it or similar.<br>

Yeah, both PLA and ABS are somewhat moisture sensitive, which is why<br>
filament is typically shipped in sealed plastic.<br>

That area is not very large, especially with the servers. Only 4-5 people<br>
would fit up there, and we do need a place for servers, printers,<br>
laminators and that kinda stuff. If you want to clean stuff out maybe start<br>
by removing the radio gear you dumped in the big wire rack. The mesh and<br>
server area stuff is actually reasonably organized and being used, so I'd<br>
