LEDE, an openwrt fork, had fixes promptly and they were trivial to
install. Might PON project consider rebasing the nodes on LEDE? Or

Felix (who committed those fixes) announced at Battlemesh this year that LEDE and OpenWRT are merging back together under the OpenWRT name. I haven't been following the progress recently but was planning to hold off on rebasing until the merge is complete.
