I don't believe they are actually using the bitcoin network. They simply opted to use the bitcoin equivalent of SSL certificate hierarchies.

While I like the idea of ZeroNet and similar projects, I don't understand why they didn't implement all of this in the browser. substack's hyperboot + mafintosh's web torrent stuff already allows for all of this to happen securely in the browser. All you have to do is manually trust/verify the first download from the server (and that's the case for non-web-based apps too). Maybe people just don't trust the browser (and maybe that's wise), but if you want adoption then that's what you need to do to make it happen.

Maybe I'll throw together a quick prototype of this over the coming weeks. It needs to happen and all the components are right there for the taking.
