Ideally, the backs of the cards would be a sticker and the business card would just be plain after the sticker is removed. I have to talk to the printers to see if they can do that at a price comparable to the cards, but I don't see why not, it's almost the same.

One of my primary motivations for creating the cards is because whenever I talk to people about the network we're developing, they say something like "yeah, I heard about a free internet thing." When really I would rather it be known as People's Open Network instead an idea that they heard about from somebody.

Secondly, if people use business cards like me, they hold onto them and save them for later. A card with a logo or event on them, I just throw those out. If we compare impressions and clicks to the cost of a business card, it's more effective because they're going to be seen again and again by that person. It's more likely they're going to remember the name and be able to call upon it because of the association they made with one of us. Also, I don't want to compare what we're doing to a start-up, because I don't feel that's appropriate, but that's how it's seen by people in the bay area and having a cards comes off as more developed than every other idea.

And last but not least, the idea is to provide cards to people by the group to those who have been attending seven or eight of the last ten meetings. Maybe or less demanding than that, but it gives more inventive to participate at the meetings.

If anyone is interested in writing an application, the Berkeley Student
Cooperative has announced a $10,000 cooperative development grant for
cooperative projects that serve students or underserved members of
low-income communities within the SF Bay Area

https://sites.google.com/a/bsc.coop/eacom/co-op-development-fund

Applications are due 11:59 pm, Sunday March 9th.

I am still interested in starting an extension to the mesh in Berkeley
starting within the co-ops. This might be a nice way to get the central
management on board, too and bring a bit more funding for hefty backbone
equipment / more nodes.

Lemme know if you all have questions. Still have a PicoStation sitting
around waiting for mesh firmware to be loaded on!

Hi!

Just a comment. For wlan slovenija we were considering having business
cards unique to each person, but then we discovered that this would be
quite problematic because of the open nature of such networks and
because each printing costs. So what about people who cannot afford
their own cards with their name? Or will the network print for them?

This is why we decided for one design for everybody, where second side
of the card is so that you can write any note you want on it before you
give the card. Or your contact or whatever.

And then we can really give them around to anybody who wants them and
wants to promote the network further. Without having to determine if
they satisfy any conditions or not. You call yourself a mesh person -
here are cards, use them.

Hi!

Just a comment. This money is awarded if you want to create a coop as an
entity/business. Not only if project is cooperative in spirit.

But I do encourage you to apply if you have any coop idea. Friends of
mine (they were at Mass effect) (Derek and Mikey) are for example
creating an IT coop (where mesh is a part of their ideas). (If anybody
has any contacts with other IT coops in the area, if they are any,
please tell me to forward them.)

So yes, this is a great opportunity. It is yearly. Spread the word around.

Could we still file for coop status under the umbrella of SudoRoom?
