CiviCRM is a large, unwieldy PHP app that acts as an add-on to a more mainstream CMS such as WordPress. I hope there’s something better suited to our needs.

I hadn’t heard of odoo before, but it seems there’s a “community edition” we could play around with to see if it’s any good.

I’m happy to look at other alternatives as well as giving humans one more try if there’s others who are interested in participating.

Hi all,

It might be time to look for alternatives to the sudo-humans software that both CCL and sudo room depend on for signing up and tracking members. Sudo-humans is still missing some very basic must-have features (like notifying anyone that someone's credit card is bouncing, or that a new member signed up!), and  the code seems fairly unmaintainable now that the initial author has left...

I've seen both CiviCRM and Odoo suggested as well-developed and well-maintained Open Source solutions. Several of the hackerspaces in the Nation of Makers network seemed to be switching towards Odoo, for example.

Does anyone have experience with CiviCRM, or Oboo, or want to help us explore our best options? Please pitch in, and help us decide! It would be great if CCL and Sudo could move together to a new platform.

Here's some resources that may be useful:

Nation of Makers: Software Needs Assessment - mentions CiviCRM, Odoo, Cobot, SeltzerCRM, sudo humans, and more

Infrastructure and Operations Value Matrix - compares features across various Odoo plugins, CiciCRM, and a few more
