Hi Folks,
I added a section to the conflict resolution section of our articles a few days ago that I think documents the way we have agreed to proceed. I met with X yesterday after work and he agreed to distance himself from the 'friend' that was at the root of this, and agreed to participate in conflict mediation offline. I told him that he is currently banned from entering sudo room and it would be at least a few weeks until this is resolved so he should be patient. He sent a personal statement calmly expressing his side of the events, which I would like to enter into the record tonight, but is not intended to be the focus of lengthy discussion. I have not met with E yet (please drop me a line if you can meet before tonight's meeting!), then meet the three of us as long as necessary before reporting back to the general meeting with our findings.
Our general meetings are not a place to dredge up conlficts that happen outside sudo room and subject everyone to drama - we have already spent too much of everyone's time coming up with a process that handles conflicts offline where we can calmly go over facts and de-escalate the situation without the perception of being judged during the factfinding process.
Here is the proposed amendment as posted on the wiki, which I'd like to discuss tonight and tweak as necessary for ratification under next week's consent agenda:

Sub-Section 3.2.2 Maintaining Safe Space During Conflict Resolution
In the event that a conflict stems from one or more members being threatened by another member of sudo room or a member of the wider community, a temporary ban may be placed that person until the conflict has been resolved. Consensus in this case may be obtained at any sudo room meeting and must be ratified online over a period of 24 hours in the event quorum is not met at the meeting. Should the person being banned fail to participate constructively in the conflict resolution process as determined by the membership, the ban shall become permanent.

I would also like to draft a revision to our definition of safe space at the meeting, to include safety from bodily harm or threats thereof, and anything else we feel is missing from the current definition.
Cheers,
Hol
