All, I wanted to update re sudo’s DIY roof ventilation  exhaust fan. After consulting with an electrician, I think this needs to come down, at least during the rainy season. Reasons are:

- Fan power connections are not exterior rated and fairly exposed to the elements

- Fan chassis is mounted within a portion of skylight glazing. Fan vibration may weaken window sealant leading to roof leaks.

- Fan extension cord has broken sheathing, exposing wires

- Extension cord left dangling down into sudo is Sudo’s most visible fire code violation.

In light of the above, unless there is any objection, power has been disconnected from this exhaust unit, and the hanging extension cord will also soon be removed.

In lieu, we will design a more code-conforming solution to address ventilation needs in Sudo, which I recognize it needs. I welcome all input.

Best,
David

Hi all,

Per prior discussion, electrical maintenance will be conducted to increase the number of available receptacles in the southeast portion of sudo room, near sudo's fridge & stairs down to basement, in order to remove life-safety hazards presented by excessive extension cords / power strips in this location under/adjacent to an unrated mezzanine etc. This work is now planned for Monday 10/18 in the AM.

This work will likely require temporarily de-powering one or more circuits to Sudo Room presently feeding receptacles in this particular area and along portions of the south wall.

Please ensure all steps are taken to save work and safely depower equipment in this area prior to this work, or provide me with instruction to safely do these things, including the sudo mesh cage. This work may impact internet access within the building while work is being undertaken. The maintenance window is not planned to last longer than a single day.

'Small' one-off jobs like this can be difficult to affordably schedule well in advance, as they are typically subject to electricians' squeezing in the work around bigger jobs they have elsewhere. Therefore, in most cases we are unlikely to get more than ~2 days advance notice as in this case.

Separately, on Sunday 10/17, an electrical assessment will be undertaken to see how providing more compliant power to the ad-hoc / DIY exhaust fan on sudo's roof (south roof area of back room) could be accomplished. Providing more permanent electrical power to this fan will not necessarily be undertaken sunday, but it is possible. Assessing / addressing the roof fan issue should not directly impact power to sudo or ccl on Sunday, but if and when this becomes required, I will notice sudo and ccl.

Thanks to everyone for bearing with these ongoing life-safety improvements to the building and please hit me up with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
