Hello 4799 Shattuck Building Enthusiasts,
It's a beautiful sunny afternoon and I hope you all have had a chance to feel the sun's warmth today or have made plans to do so this weekend. Below is our early March addition to the Building newsletter. Please read through it to the end as there are some important items I don't want you to miss. I also highlighted key dates for you to keep on your radar.
Recap & Reminders
- Trash Maintenance: Please remember to utilize the proper bins for general trash, recycling, and compost waste. The trash room has additional bins that can be used for your events or meetings. I encourage everyone to put a liner on every bin (regardless if whether it's recycling or compost) to reduce the chances of food particles or liquid sticking to the bottom of the trash cans when they are transferred to the bigger receptacles to go out.
- Foyer storage: I have given at least one person in the six lessee groups the passcode to the Black filing cabinet. I encourage everyone to continue to organize that space and make it functional as a shared storage which may include both decluttering and adding items. I will be revisiting the space in the coming weeks to evaluate its maneuverability and hazard levels.
- Leaks: The three roof leaks that were reported on 2/13/25 (two in the Entry hall and one in CLL) were addressed by Sierra Roofing that made two back to back visits to the building to properly seal a loose seam, and caulk around a vent. Thank goodness for that warranty! Additionally, during the atmospheric river in late February, CALLI identified leaks in the basement that are a direct result from the deteriorated siding on the Southside wall. We are currently reviewing the bids for that project and hope to initiate work in the Spring.
- Office Location: If someone needs to speak with me regarding a time sensitive matter I am usually available to address immediate concerns Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons after 2 pm. Feel free to walk into the ballroom and knock on the door behind the bar. That is usually the best location to start if you are looking for me.
Updates, What's New, & Next Steps
- Building Rules: The long awaited Version 1 4799 Shattuck Ave. Building Rules is [HERE!!!] We highly encourage as many representatives in your groups to review it and complete our FEEDBACK FORM. I am able to provide physical copies of the document upon request and I have set up office hours [SIGN UP HERE.] in case that is an easier way for you to comment and engage with the document. I want to emphasize that this is our first draft (hence version 1) of the building rules which is likely to change and improve over time. Your participation in the feedback process can strengthen this document and help us become more accountable to one another and the space. While I will always welcome your suggestions, the priority deadline for submitting feedback is Monday, March 24th. The V1 Building Rules will begin to be enforced in the next lease period effective March 25th, 2025.
- Facility Repairs & Improvements: Don Luis has been out for two weeks and will return next week! We will also have a plumber on site next Tuesday to examine the water pressure issue in the back restroom as well as address other building projects.
- WATER SHUT OFF NOTICE: Tuesday, March 11th from 12:3-2:30 the building may experience water interruptions while we test the water pressure and troubleshoot various plumbing issues. Please plan accordingly and let me know ASAP if this is a concern.
- Gathering & Brainstorm Session: As winter winds down and CALLI gets more settled into the building, we can finally set our sights on what we want to manifest in the future. We would like to host an informal gatherings where we can have conversations, brainstorm, and vision together. The tentative date based on CALLI team members availability is Tuesday, March 25th, 2025. Please use this When2Met link [HERE] by Friday, March 14th to indicate your availability on that day so we can confirm the time and begin outreaching.
- Entryhall floor cleaning: On Thursday, March 13th Wynd and I will be relocating the Free Store back to the other side of the Entryhall so that Don Luis can finish the floor cleaning and polishing process. This will likely take place on March 18 between 10-2 pm. If you see walkways blocked off and signage posted please honor the request and go around. I would encourage everyone to plan ahead by scheduling entrance/exit and packages to the side door and avoiding the ADA restroom until after the timeframe allotted.
