_______________________________________________Also, while Sudo Room members may have set up this area in 2014, the area is and has always been Commons and not Sudo Room's 'jurisdiction' (which is also by and large common space). The same could be said for about every square foot of Omni, to be honest. This is not an issue that can be shuffled onto a specific collective - in particular one that doesn't really exist in full anymore, primarily because the most involved members of Sudo Room became rapidly subsumed by the larger Omni project pretty much off the bat (and most of them have left or burnt out at this point). If there are issues with particular users of the space, this needs to be brought up with them directly and, failing that, brought through our conflict resolution process.
Open to creative solutions, though, if anyone wants to suggest?

Hey Dane!
I appreciate the intention here, but I think it's a bit complex. We could do away with the terminals entirely, but it seems pretty shit to provide community space without public terminals. Do you have any insights from your experiences in other similar spaces that you could share?
I gave Phil a nice laptop about two years ago, but I think it may have broken down and I can't recall the followup? Happy to repair / replace - but iirc Phil rejected that offer when I made it. I'll check back in.
Tom is special. I tend to be kind but avoidant.. have never heard anyone complain of him being explicitly harmful nor offensive. Never seen him harp on anyone who simply walks away. Have you had experiences otherwise?
With love,
Jenny

Hey Sudo Room,
I wonder if the "public" computer lab upstairs could be repurposed. Still have computers but with possible automatic time limits and no one privatizing that Commons space.
Phil does great work keeping the OC good, wonder if Sudo Room has laptop that Phil could borrow when at the OC ?
Tom does volunteer work at the OC but they are very messy and like to talk to people about their Intergalactic Space proposal often (?)...Not sure if Tom plans to start Intergalactic Sex Cult (?!?) but Tom definitely is trying to recruit specific people (wants to recruit "men and women for Intergalactic space community" ??? (Not my words.)Tom also misgenders a lot of LGBTQ & Gender Non Conforming folks !Ask North Oakland Mutual Aid folks ! )
Weird shit etc.

I am a sudoroom room member and have maintained the public computers and kept the software & hardware going, but because of the plandemic & my age & precarious health I've been too shit-scared to go in the Omni for over a year. However I got my second poke Thursday and should be able to return by the end of the month. I'll do my best to clean things up and make sure all the boxen are in good shape. I also built a 6/12 core Ryzen 5 1600AF machine with 32GB of RAM that I planned to give to Liberated Lens, but if they don't want it and/or the rest of sudoroom thinks it might have a home elsewhere I can drop it off, as well, or perhaps something comparable.
My beloved 16 year-old Catahoula hound Einstein has stopped eating chicken and tuna and will only nibble dried minnows & liver treats, so I suspect I will be canid-free shortly; one of the reasons I didn't spend enough time in the Omni was that my pup always hated the place, so I'll probably come by at least once a week while I am town starting May Day and will endeavor to make sure things are slightly more hygienic.

It's not part of sudoroom, but it's a problem. 2-3 men have claimed that corner and dug themselves in. I think the best solution to that problem is to add more people. Have regular structured events in which new people can be encouraged to use the things. It feels harsh to say "take a break and go somewhere else" when the immediate result would be just an empty room. It's easier to say that when you have a group of people who also want to use the computers. _______________________________________________ sudo-discuss mailing list sudo-discuss@lists.sudoroom.org https://sudoroom.org/lists/listinfo/sudo-discuss-- +++++++++++++++++++sig hell+++++++++++++++++++ Edmund Joseph Biow 328 Haddon Road Oakland, California 94606 (510) 763-0591 (dumb landline, no caller ID, answering machine in attic, generally monitored in morning) (415) 623-6473 (cell, I monitor the landline more frequently) EMAIL biow@sonic.net (personal) - biow@riseup.net (political) - ejbiow@gmail.com (large attachments) - ebiow@yasashi.net (bcc) ejbiow@yahoo.com (commercial) IM (Instant Messaging, like text messaging but for computers) (I recommend pidgin with the 'otr' encryption plugin as an instant message client): ejbiow@gmail.com - ejbiow@yahoo.com - EdJBiow (AIM) - biow@riseup.net - often "Gnudnik" on irc.freenode.net Skype username: edmundbiow To subscribe or unsubscribe to the lists for which I'm an administrator send an email to the following: Subscribe: occupyoakland-subscribe@lists.riseup.net oscargrantcommittee-subscribe@lists.riseup.net oaklandprivacyworkinggroup-subscribe@lists.riseup.net oaklandpublicbank-subscribe@lists.riseup.net occupyoaklanddiscuss-subscribe@lists.riseup.net oaklandlivablewagediscussion-subscribe@lists.riseup.net (dormant) occupyoaklandkitchen-subscribe@lists.riseup.net (dormant) Unsubscribe: occupyoakland-unsubscribe@lists.riseup.net oscargrantcommittee-unsubscribe@lists.riseup.net oaklandprivacyworkinggroup-unsubscribe@lists.riseup.net oaklandpublicbank-unsubscribe@lists.riseup.net occupyoaklanddiscuss-unsubscribe@lists.riseup.net Relatively secure EMAIL: You can use a PGP key to encrypt and secure our messages.
