Party People in the House!

WOW what a great party - We DID IT!  Big love and gratitude to all of our backers, new members & community peeps who joined us at Era Bar & Lounge last week for our Kickstarter celebration!  Y'all really know how to celebrate!  Special thanks go out to Alfonso Dominguez, Kevin Best & Gary Jacques who opened up their venue to us, and the amazing staff who graciously helped us and served us!  Yummy shout outs also due to: House Kombucha, Fearless Chocolate, Brilliant Elixers, and Moussa at Billy's Deli for making it all delicious! And of course, big ups to DJ Ron Tofanelli who worked us on that dancefloor!!  Lastly, but never ever the least, we thank our fabulous VOLUNTEERS who expertly executed every task with beauty and grace. HUB Oakland will only continue to move forward with the continued gifts of service from our community - we love you and thank you for coming alive with us!  More parties to come!

Here We Come!

Meanwhile, we are working hard to create an amazing space for you to connect, collaborate and grow…starting with opening our doors for co-working at 1423 Broadway on June 26 (woot!). If you are one of our 73 Pop-Up members from Kickstarter, stay tuned for a communication about our member on-boarding process (and if you want to get in on the Pop-Up co-working action but didn’t   go through Kickstarter -- please hang on until early July when we will know our capacity for new members, but drop us a line now to get on the waiting list). The last piece of big news is that we’ve also begun construction in our Uptown space at 2323 Broadway, so it’s all happening...!

Looking forward to seeing you soon at all the awesome events...and growing this vibrant community called HUB Oakland, together.

Produced and curated by HUB Oakland, Betti Ono and Kin Folkz (Spectrum/Sankofa Events) and hosted by HUB co-founder Ashara Ekundayo.

On Thursday May 2, 2013, the FBI announced that it was increasing its bounty for the capture of Assata Shakur (born JoAnne Deborah Byron) from 1 million to 2 million dollars. The agency also included Assata on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist list, the first time that a woman has ever appeared on the list. Forty years earlier, a shootout occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike, which left Assata wounded, a state trooper, Werner Foerster, and her companion, Zayd Shakur, dead.

HUB Oakland will be live streaming the event. If you can't make it down, stay tuned for a link.

HUB Oakland and Fierce Love Films present the community screening of Occupy Love--which explores the growing realization that the dominant system of power is failing to provide us with health, happiness or meaning. The film connects the dots in this era of rapidly evolving social change, featuring captivating insider scenes from the Egyptian Revolution, the Indignado uprising in Spain,  Occupy Wall Street in New York, Indigenous activists at the Alberta Tar Sands, the climate justice movement, and beyond.

Woven throughout the action oriented backbone of the film is a deep exploration of public love, and compelling stories of an emerging new paradigm.  It features some of the world’s key visionaries on alternative systems of economics, sustainability, and empathy, including Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben, Jeremy Rifkin, bell hooks and Charles Eisenstein.
