It just so happens that Tom L. began such a discussion that lasted the entire ride back to Hackistan/Stanza.  Here's the link to his blog on the subject of hover peeing: http://thomaslevine.com/!/hovering-cycle/

Nice article!

A friend of mine told me he switched to sitting when his stay-at-home-mom wife gave him an ultimatum: either sit to pee, or take on the toilet cleaning chores! Hard to argue with that...

Not being a hoverer (I typically sit to pee, unless I'm in a real hurry), would replacing some of the old toilet seats with new seats encourage more people to sit rather than hover or stand?

I generally like to leave the toilet seat cleaner than when I found it. So if it's dirty I'll take some time to wipe off the seat with toilet paper, and then use either a seat cover or a few sheets of toilet paper to sit on (using a seat cover without first drying the seat is of course entirely pointless). But wiping off a nice new plastic seat is obviously far easier than an old wooden seat with cracked paint. Are there any seats at the Omni that are in particularly bad shape?

The article above mentions that 54% of women hover when urinating in public toilets. Other than cleaner seats, is there some other way we can  make the bathrooms feel more like you're at home, in a way that would encourage people to sit rather than hover?

It's actually not such a gendered thing. Women can pee standing up as well, and many do. It's actually much neater than hover peeing, which is a blight on toilets everywhere. However, it is a power best used outdoors. The toilets at the Omni are made for sitting, and people of all genders can do so. I too pledge not to stand or hover.

Good idea M6, and Einstein & I will start dropping trou, but I find I can actually can get almost of all my Goldwater in the receptacle despite my underwhelming endowment, but only if I kneel in someone else's splatter.  Luckily, I always wear shorts, so its easy to wipe off my knees.  My pal David Rovics wrote a song apropos of this issue, Stand Up For Your Rights But Sit Down To Piss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STKDSMPzneE

BTW, what's the story on the urinals in the head in the hallway to the sudoroom?  One of them was operational, but I notice they are all cordoned off now.  Do we need funds to fix them or are they destined for the knackers?

Please excuse the unusual nature of this email and take me seriously for a
moment.

I have started the practice of sitting down to pee at the Omni, which is
not something I do anywhere else in my life. Before I continue, you may
well be wondering if I am assuming that my readership are the owners of
"hoses" as Arnas called them . "No" is the answer, but of course if you
already urinate while sitting then perhaps this call to action is less
germane.

Here is my reasoning:
1. I Care about bathroom cleanliness at the Omni.
2. After close inspection, and many trials, even with the utmost care I
cannot urinate standing up in a way that gets all my urine securely in the
bowl without splashing a very small amount.
3. In my experiments peeing sitting down is almost fail-safe at getting all
my urine in the toilet bowl.
4. I have the option to sit down to pee.

Since there are two options, and one is superior from a cleanliness point
of view - albeit slightly more labour intensive - and since cleaning will
be done in solidarity by one of our members; I therefore am pledging to sit
down to pee at the Omni.

I hope you will take this position
