Welcome to February! We’ve got lots of exciting things in store for you this month.

If you didn’t get a chance to visit us in January, consider this your invitation to come through soon for an exhibition opening or other event. Check out the shop! Peruse the zine library! Say hello at a pop-up! Teach a workshop! Host an event! We don’t have a volunteer orientation on the calendar yet for February, but there will be another one coming up in March. In the meantime, you’re welcome to join a general meeting or contact us with any questions or program proposals you may have!

SPACE: An Open Call
First Friday Opening
February 3 from 5-8 PM

Please come by the gallery on February 3rd and enjoy some space-centric tunes and fun and futuristic artwork!

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted to our open call! We are going to have another one in August so please keep your eyes out for when we release the prospectus.

WORKSHOPS + EVENTS:

All activities take place at 2120 MLK Jr. Way in Oakland, unless otherwise noted. RPSC requires proof of vaccination or a negative test in the past 72 hours to participate in all indoor activities. Masks are required. ASL interpreters and SSPs available upon request. If this support is needed, please email our accessibility coordinator.

Watercolor Plants Workshop
with Paulina Hoong (@menminmade)
Saturday, February 4th from 1:30-3:30 PM

In this workshop, we will learn the basics of painting houseplants using watercolor. We will go over watercolor basics, such as loading the brush and color mixing. All supplies are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own! If you have a favorite plant of yours that you want to bring, feel free to bring it!

This workshop is sold out! But let us know if you’d like to see more like this in the future.

Be My Valen-zine Card Making & Zine Swap
Saturday, February 11th from 1:30-4 PM
2120 MLK Jr Way, Oakland

Join the RPSC zine department at the gallery for a super cute zine swap and drop-in valentine making station! Materials provided but bring your imagination and zines to trade. Any leftover zines will be donated to the bustling RPSC zine library. Free but donations via Eventbrite welcome. Masks required.

Mixed Media Collage/Textile Projects Lab
Sunday, February 12th from 1:30-4:30 pm
Cost: Free
Location: Oakland Main Library (downstairs)

Join RPSC members and volunteers for a variety of projects. Mixed media collage with Lionel, Valentine making with Raine, textile lab with Luke, and continuing Amish knot projects with Leslie.

Be-Jeweled: A Polymer Clay Workshop
Saturday, February 18th from 1-2:30 PM
2120 MLK Jr. Way, Oakland
Sliding Scale $10-20

Explore a different type of jewelry making. Learn the basics of polymer clay, including how to treat the clay, introduce texture and create different color patterns. Materials and tools provided, just bring your creativity! But feel free to bring your own clay if you want to work with a specific color or cutters if you want a particular shape. Masks required.

Zines! Artist books! Independent publishing! It’s what the Zines committee is all about, and we would love to meet you. The committee meets monthly, on 3rd Wednesdays. For more information or any questions, send us an email.

Contribute to our zine library!
You may send one copy of your zine to our PO box address, provided at the bottom of this email.

Sell your zine(s) through RPSC!
If you’re local to the Bay Area and you’d like to sell your zine(s) through RPSC, send us an email. Please don’t send zines without first arranging a sales agreement with the Zines department.
