We don't use "blank" cards for the front door, rather any card that has something on the magnetic stripe such as a gift card or credit card.

it doesn't matter what's on the card, and the card will not be modified by the system in any way.  It can be your credit card that you use (really) or an expired gift card you found on the sidewalk (in good condition) although unfortunately bart cards and hotel key cards don't work at all.

I have a card you can use, but i'm out of town until the 16th.
