The division of space at the Omni was never based on dollars per sq. ft.

We discussed in very great length over many, many months how this model does not take into account the various other contributions that collectives bring to this project. For instance, there is *so much* work that needs to be done and just paying rent alone is, to my mind, much less valuable than a group that pays less but shares their space and resources with others, participates in organizing, outreach and general day to day boring admin and maintenance. The Public School has *no* locked or dedicated space at the moment.

The model has always been "What do you *need* and what can you contribute to the project?"

There are a few new projects who are still awaiting confirmation re: where they will live in the building (most pressingly, Rise Above) so we don't have a final - final map.

Ideally - no one would have exclusive use of any one space - all of the space would be porous and usable by multiple different groups!

Radical commoning!!!

thanks for sharing this. is the request of $1000/mo for the requested space approximately on par with the $/sqft that other spaces are paying?

also, is there a place where i can see who is in what space now?

Hi Yar,

re: your first paragraph - Yes, that is all a correct reading. My apologies if it was at all unclear.

re: your second paragraph - We were not aware that that room is not currently considered accessible. Perhaps it's possible to widen the doorway? Who is a point person (aside from Keenan) who knows more about this? Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I'm adding Backspace to the conversation.

Cheers,
Sara

It's sort of unclear in the proposal, but from what I understand
Backspace is only asking to lock ONE room for dedicated space - the
"eyeball room" upstairs with the large circular window. The "bunker
room" under the staircase would only be locked when in active use, and
the "den" upstairs would always be unlocked and schedulable, with
Backspace getting scheduling priority. Do I understand that right?

Also, people are calling that bunker room "ADA accessible", but sadly
it is not. Yes, there are no extra steps from the wheelchair lift, but
the doors are narrow and there is hardly any turning radius.
