hey folks,
wanted to share another event platform option that might be worth exploring alongside (or instead of?) luma.
kinlia (kinlia.com) is a bay area-based platform focused on "conscious creative wellness events and communities." the founder gina levy is berkeley-based and has been supportive of local hackerspaces and community spaces.
free ticketing (no cost to organizers, supports free tickets, donation tickets, promo codes)
promotional support - they help promote events through their instagram (17K followers), whatsapp groups, and email blasts if you use their ticketing
community pages - not just individual events but ongoing community presence
sudo room already has had a page on kinlia for almost 2 years: https://kinlia.app.link/PSbgInT1rLb (lmk if that link doesn't work, seems to require being logged in)
since there was nobody there i was made a community leader but haven't really activated it yet, happy to have others in that role instead. here's the management dashboard: https://app.kinlia.life/dashboard/communities/1253
context: many of us remember when we left meetup.com due to their 50% price increase. we switched to luma which has been working well. kinlia feels like it's positioned somewhere between those two - more community-focused than meetup, perhaps more values-aligned than luma, without needing to upgrade like luma requires?
not saying we should switch everything over, but could be worth exploring especially if anyone wants to experiment with their promotional support or if the "conscious creative wellness" framing resonates with certain types of events we host.
it was great to be at fixit clinic last night and talk with everyone! also good to brainstorm next steps re CALLI (esp re the new property manager) with folks last night.
thoughts?
much love,
ajay
