I tried to do a Domestic Violence Node.js command line terminal screenshare on Google hangouts and then upload the recording to Youtube for Posterity. 

It didn't work out - I got confused

the solution:

If you are going to use googlehangouts you should remember to select Google Hangouts ON AIR instead of Google Video Hangout

This will automatically upload your hangout / screencast to your YouTube channel, which you can then edit .
