I agree with you wholeheartedly! There's no point in doing the process all over again. Which is why it's important to ask questions so that there's no overlap or double work being done.

Also, going to the working groups is brilliant advice, Laura! It helps people get to know the process of how things are run. I am really happy that I had a chance to sit down and learn from/talk to the events working group on Sunday. It certainly put a lot of things in perspective and helped me understand a great deal. And thanks for the heads up on when the fundraising working group meets! I'll swing by next Monday. :)

I really appreciate that people are enthusiastically stepping forward to think about on this stuff. At the same time, many of us have been working on it for the past year. We have looked into many options with a very experienced radical lawyer and after doing so the delegates have made decisions. It really would not be productive to go through this extensive process again.

It also not easy to explain these complex matters in an email. If you have questions about what is already in process, please come to a fundraising/buy the building working group meeting Mondays at 5, or speak to someone who has been on that working group in person.

The issue with making more money from the ballroom isn't its corporate structure. It is having enough people consistently working on booking and producing events. Getting involved in this is the most helpful action to take at this time.

Do we need the Omni to be come a non-profit entity since we will have

Can you fiscally sponsor a for-profit company?

The delegates decided we should apply for 501c3 back in August.
