MBA's First Overnight Youth Meditation Retreat!

This summer MBA achieved its longtime goal of taking a group of youth on an overnight residential meditation retreat. Participants were recruited from our longtime partner the METAS program, a tutoring program for youth in the Richmond, CA area. Ten youth and young adults (ages 14-20) participated in this 3-day, 2-night retreat, and it was a triumph!

Our retreat took place at Redwood Glen, a beautiful retreat center nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains with breathtaking views and hundred year-old redwood trees. The youth who took part in this retreat were amazing! We took them through mindfulness meditation exercises, deep sharing activities, long periods of silence, and advanced compassion practices. We hiked around the woods and meditated in the forest, by a beautiful stream, and discussed life at night by the campfire. Upon its completion, every young person who participated in the retreat was interviewed about the experience was like. Without exception they described how beneficial they felt the retreat was, mostly citing reductions in stress, contemplation about life, and an increased emotional awareness. Most of the youth said they would like to repeat the experience next year, and would even like to extend it to a five or six-day retreat.

MBA would like to thank its generous supporters and partners who made this retreat happen. It was a deep and transformative experience, and has laid a blueprint for many MBA residential retreats to come!

Support MBA Youth on Retreats.
Donate $250 Today.

Our first retreat was so successful that MBA is in the process of planning one - two retreats for Summer, 2014. We need your help! Donating to MBA will provide youth the opportunity to engage in deep mindfulness practice and have life-changing experiences.  Our youth come from low-income neighborhoods, contending with issues of violence, substance abuse, and trauma. MBA does not charge any fees to the youth we serve or their families for any of our programming or retreats. We rely on support from wonderful people like you who want to spread mindfulness and give young people the opportunity to learn more about themselves and gain skills not only applicable, but critical, to their lives in the real world.

A contribution of $250 sends one youth on retreat. Our goal is to bring at least 20 – 30 youth on retreat next summer. Please consider a donation of $250 today to help us reach this goal!
