I'd like to help out with this research - to compare and contrast the different insurance agreements, in regards to terms and conditions.

A sample of groups that include heavy machinery, bio-hacking, kids programs, and eCommerce (products & services) would be the ideal for the essential stuff we'd need to worry about.

It would be very useful to do some kind of mash-up overlapping this comparative chart with the ongoing Oakland zoning conditions research. I know there have been various efforts - does anyone have a sense of where to find this information?

To those of you wondering how much liability you'd be taking on, here's a short summary:

This assumes that sudo room has liability insurance, which should be top priority as soon we are incorporated (getting liability was a primary motivator for becoming incorporated in the first place.

Who wants to take on the task of researching hacker space liability insurance? I suggested contacting a few other California hackerspaces and asking about their insurance policy and pricing and bringing that info to the upcoming weekly meeting.

I missed this meeting and most sudo general due to a public school class at the same time.. not sure if this disqualifies me from weighing in, or if some i nominate have perhaps already precluded/disinclined themselves from being nominated, but i thought I would add my 2c here, (which y'all are also free to totally disregard if course if needs be) -

Not sure whether or not it's necessary under the process Yardena described, but I second Max's nominations for the Board.

I also hereby nominate Max (notconfusing) for the Board as well.

Is there a particular number we're shooting for in terms of the Board?

For reference on what a non-profit Board does (assuming an active board, which I understand currently is not what we want) - the Nolo Press page at http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/building-nonprofits-board-30046.html is useful, I think.

At tonight's meeting there was consensus that we should move forward
with these articles as they are. So for our purposes right now, they
are officially ratified:

Unfortunately, this entails a Board of Directors. So far no viable
legal hacks have appeared to work around this. So the next detail we
need to tackle is exactly WHO will be on this Board. We decided that
the most legitimate way to do this is to let the mailing list nominate
names to a list, confirm they are willing, and then consent on the
list of names, to address any potential disagreements or conflicts.

Please use this thread to nominate yourselves or others to be on our
Board of Directors. Remember, this position requires your name on
official government paperwork, will come with legal liability, and
will be constructed with as little actual power as possible.

Hopefully this will be settled by next week's meeting (Oct 30), at
which point we can actually drive to Sacramento and file!
