Hey
I'm still here. I'm taking a sailing class all next week so I won't be
around.
Afterwards, I''m gonna try to come to the space on Tues nights and wrangle
somebody into doing an interview. I envision doing a live 5-15 min
interview with somebody about a project they are working on or a class they
are organizing. I will record it in Audacity and put together a short intro
and outro with voiceovers, and ultimately make a self contained piece that
can be looped in the stream.
Also, maybe we …
[View More]could loop other techy podcasts( Make mag..etc) in the
stream when there is nobody DJing.
Ideally, I think it would be cool for folks to be able to tune in at home
and listen to an interview about a sudo room workshop that their unfamiliar
with and/or can't physicaly attend.
Looking forward to working with everybody.

Hey all,
Hoping that Seth is reading this, as I made him join the list when he
stopped by at this past Wednesday meeting, stealthily. :)
Seth is interested in all things radio (he's built transmitters from kits
-- awesome, that's nontrivial soldering skill) but especially in running a
talk show.
Seth, there's a radio slot signup sheet somewhere -- (Marina, can you post
the link again?) -- You'll find you have the privilege of totally open
choice at the moment, since we're just now working …
[View More]things out.
Cheers,
Naomi

I wasn't sure what to expect after I was attacked last night, but it seems
I'm beset with random bouts of drowsiness. Plus I still haven't gotten all
the pepper spray off my body.

Info on the Dinner Benefit for FSRN in Berkeley (@5-7PM) on 4/21 towards bottom of email.
Including the fundraising pitch as well because of the useful relevant data on costs for scaled-up community radio.

[View More]continue production through the end of June while we secure new major funding to carry us through the year. We're 65% of the way there with $35,000 still to raise.

> Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) is an award-winning US and international radio news program that broadcasts on nearly 100 stations across the country. FSRN prioritizes public-interest news that examines how social, political and economic decision-making affects people and communities. We report news from the ground level, seeking out local residents and marginalized communities to tell their own stories, whether struggling to overcome an injustice or creating solutions for a better society. We have contributing reporters in 30 states across the country and 50 countries around the globe, with a strong presence in Africa, the Middle East, South/Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.

As a reporter, I have not only been deeply humbled by the editorial staff's professionalism and high journalistic standards, but also their willingness to teach me new skills so that I can bring you more of the stories you need to hear.

These are the stories of our own communities, families and friends.

I have this thing about science talk radio shows: I love them.
I was thinking we could start filling time in the stream by syndicating
shows. Many are great, and many would gladly receive the added exposure,
however small.

Dispute shuts out Oakland from East Bay radio system
> The East Bay Regional Communications System Authority, acting against the wishes of its executive director and at least one member agency, has refused to program Oakland public safety radios ...
hi everyone,
naomi, mark, and i worked on a couple items this evening.
the current set up is as follows:
1. there is now a physical mixer that allows you to switch between two
channels (so you can switch between 2 different songs, just like turntables
:P).
[image: Inline image 1]
2. there are 4 lines in in total. (this means we can potentially switch
between 4 different sources, like a turntable with 4 RECORDS.)
3. 2 of the lines are currently connected
4. one of the lines goes to the …
[View More]computer set up in there (which means you
can play music from the computer)
5. the other line goes to an unhooked mini jack that one can use to play
from one's portable music device of choice!
[image: Inline image 2]
6. the mixer runs to naomi's rpi which is streaming to her stream,
currently accessible at radio.sudoroom.org.
7. the computer still works as it used to - the mic is connected to the
computer and you can use mixxx to queue songs and speak on the mic. (the
physical mixer also has a separate mic input, so there's that!) audacity is
also on that computer, allowing one to record audio.
addenda
1. the beast (aka "tiny") is no longer connected :( which means no more
tapes :( BUT we can easily reconnect him as there are still 2 empty inputs
on the mixer. the only reason we disconnected him was because it was
returning crappy sound.
[image: Inline image 3]
2. every time we listen to tapes in there, i get this song stuck in my head
for the rest of the day: http://hypem.com/track/1e7xa/Blouse+-+Videotapes
3. here's what the room looks like!
[image: Inline image 4][image: Inline image 5]
so pretty! wow! :D

Last time, Marina got a crash course in liquidsoap radio switching, and
Rusty and I accidentally created Mix Tape Radio, which is still technically
running -- tune in when someone is playing a mix tape. Or listen to the
Sound of Silence otherwise: http://nthmost.net:8000/rpi
THIS time, More of the Same! Why not? It's fun to turn unlikely audio
sources into streaming radios. The more the merrier, I say.
That's why this time, I'm bringing (and leaving behind) a laptop intended
to be yet …
[View More]another stream source as well as an automated podcast-cutter. A
liquidsoap sandbox machine anybody (who asks nicely) can have an account on.
And I had a fun idea. We could put a streaming radio "tuner" in one or
both of the rooms, a piece of hardware whose sole job it is to play
streaming radio sources through a stereo. Maybe with a nice blue LCD
display like the one on this page:
http://wulfden.org/TheShoppe/freeduino/starting.shtml
And then we could set up an open-access icecast2 box (internally) that lets
anybody become a streaming source, and then the "tuner" could automatically
get a list of what's available, so you could just turn a knob to switch
between available sources, such as:
* Sudo Radio (live)
* Sudo Radio (programmed)
* Mix Tape Radio
* Radio Loki
* All Bad Religion Plus Some TMBG
* ...?
* Profit
So, come! I'll be at Sudo Room from 8pm to 10pm, doing whatever I want
that happens to be streaming radio related.
I'd still like to teach some liquidsoap programming to anyone who's
interested.
Cheers,
Naomi
ps. if you'd like to suggest a different meeting time, I'm open to it.
Rachel and I do-ocracied this meeting date/time and I just stuck with it.
