** Secure and distributed remote update system.
** Integrating the watchdog
** Correctly route from nodes that have mesh connectivity but not internet connectivity to the internet. (Juul's working on this as of 2014 May 27)
** Automatically lower signal strength in crowded areas (Deekoo's working on this as of 2014 May 27)
**There's lots to do for people with all sorts of technical expertise, including: UI/UX Design, Graphic Design, Web Development, OpenWRT development/hacking, distributed network setup/administration, etc. Chances are, if you're interested in contributing to the firmware project and have the time and energy to get up to speed, there will be somewhere you can help out a lot!
