Difference between revisions of "Articles of Association/Improving membership"

#* To become a member, a person must submit a brief written or spoken "Declaration of Intent to Join" where they answer the following questions (for informational purposes only, in other words "there are no wrong answers"):

#** If you know already, what are you excited to do at sudo room?

#** If you know already, what are you excited to share with the sudo room community?

#* It is only possible to become a member at the weekly sudo room meeting. Prospective members should attend if possible but can submit a written declaration if they are not able to attend in person.

#* At the sudo room weekly meeting, every prospective member and non-members must leave the room while the existing members have a chance to bring up any concerns or reasons why the prospective member(s) should not be allowed membership (referred to as the "Initial Pondering").

#** The intent is for it to be very easy for new members to join, so only very serious concerns should be brought up.

#** If any existing member objects (see [[#Section_2.1.1_Objections_to_Prospective_Members|Section 2.1.1]] below) to a prospective new member becoming a member, and this cannot be resolved through discussion, then the prospective member will not be allowed membership at this time.

#** Unreasonable or frequent blocking of new members by an existing member is grounds for immediate termination of membership based on a 2/3 vote.

#*  Upon completing the "Initial Pondering", such potential members must be communicated to all sudo rooom members within 24 hours, including their "Declaration of Intent to Join".

#* After the Initial Pondering, if there are no objections, there will be one week for sudo room members to raise objections (see [[#Section_2.1.1_Objections_to_Prospective_Members|Section 2.1.1]] below) as to why the prospective member should not be allowed to join (referred to as the "Extended Pondering").

#* The new member will be added to the membership list and given access to desired and relevant assets and services of sudo room.

#* No announcement of this change of status after the "Extended Pondering" is necessary.

To clarify the process and implications of a member's objection to a prospective member's request for membership during either the initial pondering or extended pondering:

* Any member who raises an objection does not need to be personally identified (directly or indirectly) with regard to the objection.

* The members present for the initial pondering, or the members notified during the extended pondering, must come to consensus on '''an explanation''' and an optional '''request''' to deliver to the prospective member in question.

** This explanation should prioritize or protect the privacy and anonymity of any members with objections, as necessary, at the members' discretion.

** The explanation and optional request may provide an opportunity to resolve objections, such as to ask the prospective member to:

*** Provide some concrete evidence or proof that may settle the objection or clarify a misunderstanding.

*** Other reasonable requests

* At least one current member must communicate this explanation to the prospective member as soon as possible.

** This current member who communicates the explanation should also field any relevant feedback from the prospective member and update all current members.

* Public venues such as the weekly meeting or public email lists are '''NOT''' appropriate venues to discuss the specific details of objections to a prospective member's request to join sudo room. All conversations concerning the details of objections, concerns, explanations, requests, etc are best held privately or among the current sudo room members, as necessary and at the members' discretion.
