Labitrack allows simple 2D barcode labeling and wiki-based annotation of items in the space.

To try it out, you need to be connected to the sudo room LAN/wifi (the ssid you want is currently "Sudo Room Closet WiFi"). Then simply point you web-browser at http://space.local
'''''"Why is Sudo Room covered in QR codes?" you might ask.'''''

If you are running Windows then you will be unable to use .local addresses, since Windows does not support Zero Configuration Networking. OS X does support zeroconf, though Apple calls it Bonjour. You should be able to enable zeroconf support support for windows by installing [https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999 Apples zeroconf for windows], but we have not yet tested this.
Sudo Room is using the '''Labitrack''' inventory tracking software from the Copenhagen-based [https://labitat.dk/ Labitat] hackerspace. Labitrack allows simple 2D barcode labeling (QR codes) of individual items in the Sudo Room, and creates a wiki-based online inventory of those items. To look up what items are available at Sudo Room (or add new items), you need to:

When you create a new item in the web app, a label will be immediately printed on the printer currently located near the far corner of the main bookcase. The sticker paper loaded in the printer may be too wide (we need to order the correct kind), so it's best to cut it in half, width-wise.
# Connect to the correct LAN/wifi (named: "sudo mesh" or "omni ballroom").
# Then, simply type into your web-browser the address: http://stuff.sudo.

When you scan the 2D barcode, you will be taken to e.g. http://o.sudoroom.org/1 where the number at the end refers to the ID of the scanned item. This will immediately redirect you to http://sudoroom.org/wiki/O:1 where you can add information about the item.
When you scan a 2D barcode, you will be taken to an item address, for example: http://o.sudoroom.org/1. The number at the end refers to the ID of the scanned item. This will immediately redirect you to http://sudoroom.org/wiki/O:1, where you can add information about the item. When you create a new item in the web app, a label will immediately be printed on the teeny tiny printer currently located on the main bookcase. A future goal is that the information you enter when you create the label will automatically be entered into the wiki page for the item. (updates, people?)

A future goal is that the information you enter when you create the label will automatically be entered into the wiki page for the item. For now, you can only look up that information by going to http://space.local

The point of the inventory system is:
==What's the point?==
Here's the point:
*We want to document the tools, projects and people available in the Sudo Room.
::''Wiki pages should provide info such as instructions for use, links to manuals, or a contact person.''
*We want to help people keep the space organized.
::''Wiki pages should include the item home (where it belongs). That way, even new people can help keep the space organized simply by scanning items and putting them back in their home location.''

*Document the tools, projects and people in sudo room.
==Technical stuff for Windows users==
:Item wiki pages should provide info such as instructions for use, links to manuals or contact person email.
You may notice that some people use space.local instead of space.sudo, and some devices in the spaces only have .local hostnames. You will be ''unable to use .local addresses'', since Windows does not support the necessary "Zero Configuration Networking" (''"zeroconf"''). OS X ''does'' support zeroconf, though Apple calls it ''Bonjour''. '''You should be able to enable ''zeroconf'' support for Windows by installing [https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999 Apple's zeroconf for windows].''' The mysterious person who originally wrote this post can confirm that this works on Windows 7.
*Help people keep the space organized

:Item wiki pages should include the item home (where the item belongs). That way even new people can help keep the space organized simply by scanning items and putting them back in their home location.
==Stuff without QR codes==

Not all things are labeled with QR codes.  Some need labels printed, others are better without.

* Dell Dimension DE051 (B110) - with XP SP3

====Maintenance====

There is going to be a maintenance and inventory of our existing electronics. (Suggested June 2013)
http://lists.sudoroom.org/pipermail/sudo-discuss/2013-June/002912.html

* Created an ethernet pad for this - https://pad.riseup.net/p/sudoroommaintenance

====3D Models of Objects====

Project to add 3D models of various objects in the SudoRoom.

* Software - mobile software Autodesk 123Catch (anyone with a smartphone can scan a 3D object by taking up to 40 photographs of the object and stitching it up in the cloud) - very easy to use, even for beginners who don't know CAD at all
* Hardware - eventually we'd like to get a 3D Scanner for SudoRoom
* Hosting - We'd like to eventually host these models as STL files on our own servers
* Add these models as uploaded files or in-wiki files for each inventory item, tied to the QR codes as well that we scan
