ammendments to articles of association

not at meeting but here it is (hol)

"Sub-Section 3.4.3 Dues Dues shall be paid by members on a sliding scale basis, from the minimum $10 per month rate to the recommended donation of $60 per month calculated using the process below. Exemptions of individuals from paying dues may be approved on a case by case basis by the general membership on the grounds of financial hardship or refusal to participate in the monetary system. If the operating budget has a net surplus for three consecutive months, the minimum rate may be lowered to $0 by the general membership, to remain in effect as long as the budget is in surplus See the proposal (needs to be updated) here: https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association/Minimum_Dues#Sub-Section_3.4.3_Dues and https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association#Sub-Section_3.4.3_Dues Including but not limited to:

Some negotiation of BACE time bank hours

completely gutted the old one that had calculations in it and shit. the whole section needs to be rewritten really - hol

Feedback:

Marc: Nov $$ unnecessary. Last line also unnecessary (as amendments can always be changed)
   Luciano: Include BACE Timebank hours, cryptocurrencies etc;
Familiar: Encourage alternative currencies, active participation and instruction, grant application, food/barter...
  • Defining membership.
    • juul proposes
      • That membership requires a minimum fee of $10 per month.
      • That membership does not automatically include the ability to vote.
      • That after 1 month of membership a member can show up to a meeting and the community decides by consensus whether the person should become a voting member.
      • That membership includes 24/7 access to the space with a personal access code and/or rfid.
      • That members don't ever have to show up in person if they don't want voting rights.
      • That we implement Jake's suggestion for handling non-members. Non-members can use the space as much as they want when other members are present, but cannot access the space when no members are there and have to leave when the last member leaves. To empower members to deal with problematic non-members, non-members can be thrown out at any time by a member if that members feel they are being a problem, _unless_ some other member present in the space is willing to vouch for the member as a guest.

Consensus items:

    • Membership includes 24/7 access to the space with a personal access method, for example code and/or rfid.
      • Unanimous consent
    • Non-members can use the space as much as they want when other members are present, but cannot access the space when no members are there and have to leave when the last member leaves.
      • Discussion, mostly vibe-y
    • To empower members to deal with problematic non-members, non-members can be thrown out at any time by a member if that members feels that the non-member is being a problem, _unless_ some other member present in the space is willing to vouch for the non-member as a guest. Non-members being asked to leave must be told that they can further discuss the incident at a Wednesday meeting or on the mailing list.
      • Discussion: Some way of logging the incident?
      • Working Group: To reframe the above amendment
    • Subsudo

Each sudo member is required to be part of one or more committees, team, other loose collection of sudoer(s) called a subsudo or subprocess. Being part of a subsudo is not intended to tie a sudoer to a massive commitment, but rather to illustrate some minimum responsibility your want to claim at sudo room. You are expected to organize and maintain your subsudo with your fellow subsudoers at some nonzero level. If no preexisting subsudo appeals to a sudoer, then that sudoer may take arbitrary time to create and list their own subsudo with no disqualifications allowed on the basis of absurdity.

      • Feedback: Humor value; way of showing new members what kind of activities/projects occur in the community;

Membership Discussion

  • Tim: Would be helpful if there was a clear benefit
  • Matt: Refers to https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Articles_of_Association/Assets_and_Resources and says the primary benefit is responsibility
  • V: Individual recognition in the weekly meetings / wiki / generally
  • Tim: Reframing: "After one month of membership, new members are eligible to vote"
  • Familiar: Why wait 1 month for voting? Do we not want members for <4 weeks to have a say?
    • Method for factoring trust into the membership process (which in this model is open), by making the most powerful aspect of membership something that is agreed upon by the group (indiv. right to vote in our consensus model).
  • Marc: Emphasizes that the last component of the proposal - for kicking out problematic non-members - is to only be exercised when a non-member is being particularly problematic in the space

discussions

  • tribalize? everybody wear the same thing?
  • remote-yar proposes official camera policy:
    • people taking pictures & video should:
      • acquire consent from everyone
      • acquire consent and review again before publishing
      • applies to all identifying data: face, voice, body, name, etc
      • strict RFC-2119 compliance of "should" vs "must" to be debated
