Questions

  • People come here and are always outfitting their houseboats. It'd be cool to take some of that knowledge and permeate it all over... there must be so much carpentry wisdom to share!
  • Many members of the hacker spaces are part of the breakaway hippie cult group Cal Sailing Club, which offers punk rock low cost sailing lessons and boat lending and proves that sailing "isn't just for rich people" and started with rebellious UC Berkeley students doing some kind of protest against the administration in the 1960s.
  • There's hella history around ferries in the Oakland bay area... https://oaklandwiki.org/Oakland_Ferry_Services_%28Historic%29
  • Did anyone ever hang out with the East Bay Boat Hackers? They were considering a space somewhere in 2012. hackerspaces Link
  • So many people die every year trying to immigrate in dangerous boats - can hackers help make lifesaving, affordable devices for these refugees? There was a UCSD mobile cell phone art project that led immigrants to water in the desert, potentially saving lives. Could there be something similar for boat refugees?
