Sleeping is not allowed at Sudoroom. People should not sleep at Sudoroom or use it for domestic purposes. Unfortunately, they do, and we document it here.

Incidents

  • 2/14/2014
    • Two folks locked themselves in public school. Matt, Jenny, Luis, and Marc confronted them, they packed their things, and were escorted out.

    • Tiri has been crashing in the space several times this week, though had been somewhat shepherded out by Matt and Jenny the night of the 14th. Night of the 15th, he came in after last BART and promptly fell asleep, then was confronted by Marc and Chris as they were closing up around 4am. He left cordially, claiming he'd been waiting for BART to open.
      • I should add that he took off his shoes and laid down to sleep, then proceeded to snore loudly. When I woke him up (with difficulty), he claimed he wasn't sleeping and wouldn't sleep at sudo room, then went back to sleep. Second attempt with Chris helping out he sat up, put on his shoes, then fell asleep again. Third attempt we stayed with him until he was out. (Juul (talk))
      • Tiri has been caught sleeping at sudo room numerous times, in the public school, on the common room couches, and in the radio room. He uses the space as his after-drinking crashpad. After I found him in the radio room, he gave me a sob story about consuming something the night before that knocked him out. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and told him to not let it happen again. A few days later, I found him sleeping in the public school again. If I see him again I will not hesitate to demand he leave immediately. Matt (talk) 19:36, 24 June 2014 (PDT)

      • Found sleeping in common space couches next to sudo mesh packed stuff. Requested not to sleep here again. Matt (talk) 19:36, 24 June 2014 (PDT)
    • Neil
      • Found sleeping in the public school. When I told him to leave, turned all the lights on, and later came back to the room, he was trying to sleep again. Matt (talk) 19:36, 24 June 2014 (PDT)
      • Has been found sleeping at sudo room many times. He is disrespectful of the space and our belongings by ignoring "Do Not Hack". For instance, he disassembled various computers (critical for sudo infrastructure including CNC, public terminal, PCs for donation to West Oakland Youth Center) in order to try to set one up to play video games in the common space with the projector and a joystick. He finished and left it all out multiple times, either throwing away or otherwise absconding various components like several pc tower case covers. He stores clothes and belongings at sudo room, leaves messes, does not clean or participate in the upkeep of the space except on rare occasions when he is visibly uncomfortable because members present in the space notice him and know his negative history/behavior (attempts to stay in favor). Has been belligerent and unsafe when drunk. The next time I saw him I told him he is not welcome and to leave immediately for the reasons of his disrespect to the space and community. • Brittany
      • Had been staying at sudo room during the day, waiting until night and also sleeping at sudo room. Admits to being homeless. Familiar with local shelters and services, but has opted to stay in sudo room if possible. I told her on Monday morning she can't stay at sudo room any more and directed her to St. Vincent de Paul, where they could help her find a place to stay. After I brought this up, she showed hesitation, but a guest in the space (Rich) offered to walk her over there in a few minutes. When asked to take a seat and wait a bit, she seemed to, but actually left the sudo room common space. I thought she left the building, but when I saw her in the hallway of the building, she quickly exited toward the stairs, not responding to my question about whether she would wait for Rich. Alternatives

There is a spot to occupy properly at San Pablo and 20th, little nook on the back side of parking lot, Snow park, near the West Oakland bart station, or others around the East Bay.
