just wanted to chime in having frequented the archimedes banya, the russian
turkish bathouse in NYC, and having been to russia few times. I can most
def. back Sonja's assertion that the banya in question certainly not
"bougie", but more "new russian". The historical context and intersections
between these two descriptions is another discussion, but if anything I'd
describe the clientele at the Russian-Turkish bathhouse in NYC as more
"bougie".

After all, it's the bourgeois who is concerned with unobtainable
authenticity, right?
