Info on the Dinner Benefit for FSRN in Berkeley (@5-7PM) on 4/21 towards bottom of email.
Including the fundraising pitch as well because of the useful relevant data on costs for scaled-up community radio.

> FSRN must raise $100,000 to continue production through the end of June while we secure new major funding to carry us through the year. We're 65% of the way there with $35,000 still to raise.
>
> Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) is an award-winning US and international radio news program that broadcasts on nearly 100 stations across the country. FSRN prioritizes public-interest news that examines how social, political and economic decision-making affects people and communities. We report news from the ground level, seeking out local residents and marginalized communities to tell their own stories, whether struggling to overcome an injustice or creating solutions for a better society. We have contributing reporters in 30 states across the country and 50 countries around the globe, with a strong presence in Africa, the Middle East, South/Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.
>
> We currently have enough cash to continue production through May. Our production costs are $1,660/day. Could you fund us for a day? A week? Or any portion -- large or small?
>
> Help keep FSRN on the air. Please donate today. Thank You!

> With a fast changing world that is confronting new and difficult challenges, the need for ethical, honest and independent journalism is a must.
>
> Free Speech Radio News has proven to be one of the few news organizations to not only take on this important responsibility but to also go much further. As a reporter, I have not only been deeply humbled by the editorial staff's professionalism and high journalistic standards, but also their willingness to teach me new skills so that I can bring you more of the stories you need to hear.
>
> These are the stories that are often ignored or marginalized by the mainstream media. They are stories of small voices making big impacts. They are the family members of the disappeared in Mexico's drug war, inner-city youth demanding schools rather than jails, undocumented immigrant students winning their rights, or citizens fighting for marriage equality. These are the stories of our own communities, families and friends.
>
> Without the tireless work of FSRN, many of these voices, our voices would be left in the dark and unheard. It is thus our privilege and responsibility to keep this medium alive, to empower ourselves by informing and by being informed.
>
> I urge you to donate. I urge you to tell others to donate. Without your continued support we will lose this unique, independent, and deeply important information space. We will lose another tool out of our toolbox for maintaining and deepening democracy. We will be replaced by the disinformation and commercialism of the mainstream outlets.
