The iMac is quite usable, 4GB of RAM, and now has Debian 11 (with KDE Plasma) on it. One of the Mac Minis is also working now, but with 500MB of RAM, will be of limited use. If it was up to me, I'd toss some retro console emulators on it and call it a day. The other Mac mini, however, was refusing to boot from CD or from USB, and when disassembled so that we could load the drive using another machine, is no longer booting (I suspect something unfortunate happened to the daughterboard that the mini mounts the hard drive with). I don't think further work on it is a good use of anyone's time. I also have my own mac mini, which I'm happy to donate as a communal station if it would be useful. Otherwise, I'm happy to keep it at home as a spare.
I think the idea is to have one or two stations on the main table so that for coding nights, newer folks or people without their own computers can be seated with the group. I'm not sure everyone is aware of the upstairs computer, or the ones by the laser cutter.
I enjoy getting these old machines in working order, so if we have more that are salvagable, I'm happy to help. As it is now, it seems like we have more desktops than we have keyboards for (as I mentioned to Juliana), and we seem to have several laptops with no power supplies. If we need to make room for newer donations, perhaps it's time to salvage parts that are usable (RAM, drives, etc.)? We could organize a day/evening to get together and make it a group activity.

I was talking to Jonathan Cadle and we're working on having accessible computers for those who dont have one/cant bring it to sudo room. They are working on creating
"communal stations", which would be desktop computers plugged ins, with some basic linux os and ready for use by anyone.
But we dont have keyboard / mouses enough. Posting here first to see if anyone has spare ones. Or brainstorm where we could get donations. I'll think/ask around and post my findings here.
I think rn we have one communal station working. It would be nice to have a couple!
