Thanks for all the info Yardena. I have another question, so my employer can match donations, i was able to find Omni commons as an org to donate over there but not sudoroom. So is that becauise sudoroom is not an official non-profit? Wondering if there’s a way to donate over there to Omni c but make it part of sudoroom “rent”. For those not familar, my employer would match 100% my donation, so if I donate $50, it would be $100, so I really wanted to use this.
Sudoroom has a bank account at UNIFY (https://www.unifyfcu.com). It is
a "subaccount" of Omni Commons and right now can only be accessed
using Omni's web login, which also gives access to all of Omni's other
accounts and fiscally sponsored projects. I'm sure there's probably a
better way, but unify has not been very flexible with things in the
past.
The current "signers" for Sudoroom's bank account are Robb Benson (who
quit sudoroom in 2019), Mai Sutton (who moved to LA in 2020), John
Torok (former Omni treasurer who resigned earlier this year) and Jenny
Ryan. Unfortunately, this list cannot be changed unless we get all
those people at a branch location together at the same time.
All of Omni's other bank accounts are in a similar mess.
It would be great to sort out a system where Sudoroom has independent
access to its money. Unfortunately, Sudoroom has never really had any
extra money to spend and has been in near continuous debt to Omni
since moving in 2014. If Sudoroom ever had a single penny that wasn't
needed to cover its monthly payments of $2k to Omni, the logistics of
accessing that penny would be a great problem to solve.
