Hi all,
Thanks Troy, definitely come and check out the studio to take measurements
for a rack.
I'd be happy to show you (and anyone else who is interested) how to use the
studio to broadcast live to
at any time! Definitely need
to schedule group trainings sometime soon. (This is also relevant because
we've been talking about scheduling oral histories - which we still need to
do!)
All of this reminds me that anyone from the Oakland Wiki community who
wants to learn how to broadcast live (read Oak Wiki entries, hint hint?),
just let me know and I'd be happy to show you how (we can even do this
during or before one of the Thursday meetings if there's enough interest).

Troy- sounds fun. Def go with a wood rack setup- some
dampener material
can help, and conical legs to reduce vibration. And check out Pro-Ject's
solid plinth turntables, I have their Carbon Debut and it's stunning, they
also make them with USB outs for digitizing.. great units, awesome quality
for the money.
Sorry to hijack the wiki thread for a mo, hard to repress the
audiophiles...

Thanks marina !! :)
I'm thinking of purchasing a vinyl record player with digital line out to
share my 290 records of old vintage stuff from 1930's - 1990's of
everything from
hip hop, classical, to mickey mouse collector's records from the 50's.
I wanna check all the specs first to know what i will need and am thinking
for spacial reasons that I may build or buy a rack for the equipment. I
figure measuring and building out of wood would lead to less interference
than metal/plastic racks.
I'll check to schedule for when you have some trainings coming up.
Also I think doing an introductory workshop on the basic groundwork for
fairuse laws, limitations, and allowances around reading people's work on
the air and reading the newspaper for instance to then be followed up with
discussion and critical assessment and connection to larger events.
Eddan, would you be willing to look into your reference materials and give
us a list of some starting points for research regarding fairuse possibly?
I know there is a book called "The number 2 and the letter Z : fairuse or
copyright law and you" something to that effect in one of the bookshelves
at SUDO.
See you both at Wednesday nights general meeting :)

hi all,
radio room is clean, spiffy, and ready to use. for real this time.
i am ready to help any of you or small groups of you (however many will
fit in the studio) learn how to share audio on the livestream.
i've also written some documentation that should ideally help anyone get
started livestreaming on their own and provide them with detailed
instructions for troubleshooting the most common problems encountered:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Sudo_Radio
next step is to keep doing trainings until all of you are happy with your
competence levels and to start scheduling shows. we're currently using
this
sadly neglected spreadsheet to do show scheduling
(
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApmrUsz7z5DodDVaZnJ4TW1ndC1jd1…
)
but alternative scheduling ideas are welcome.

ps - you may have noticed that i have only spoken about livestreaming
thus
far and have not mentioned recording or
producing. this is because for
now,
we've had more interest in livestreaming than
in doing audio production,
so
i've been focusing on getting that ready for
people to use, but the next
step is production...and anyway, audacity (audio recording and production
software) is installed on the studio computer, so you are welcome to futz
with it to your heart's content.
pps - the documentation needs a bunch of images and formatting cleanup. i
am working on this.
