If we're revamping the radio project under Neon Leon's guidance, then this
may be the exact device we need to tie everything together.
// Matt
hi everyone,
a few of us have been working on getting the radio up and running with lots
of great programming all the time. we need help!
do you want to be a part of coordinating the radio? here are the kinds of
things that need to be done:
- recruiting dj's
- training dj's
- coordinating scheduling
let's spread the work around so that we can give the radio the love it
deserves!
- marina
hi folks,
open call for ideas for how to move forward with the radio.
the radio is set up, it works (altho the rpi needs to be restarted fairly
frequently), but it is mostly sitting unused.
the kids use it on tuesday nights, i play music when i feel like it, ray
does excellent stuff sometimes as well, but otherwise it's not really
seeing much use.
lots of people (especially new and/or random people) are really excited
about radio, but i just don't have the bandwidth to follow up with all of
…
[View More]them and organize trainings.
so my questions are:
- what else can we do to help get people on board doing shows?
- would something like setting up training days and inviting people to them
work? (the limitation here is the tiny size of the room!)
- we've also discussed a launch party - this is something that we can
invite people to!
- i've written documentation, but video will help also (ray, i think you
have some video, yes?)
- does anyone else have interest in taking more of an active role
organizing radio stuff...following up with interested people, drumming up
interest, leading trainings, etc. if none of the folks currently on this
list are interested, then i'd be happy to put out a broader call on the
discuss list for more people to help coordinate.
anyway, please share any other ideas that you guys have that you'd be
willing to take on (or take on with help from someone else) for getting
people into the studio. i'm unfortunately at the limits of my bandwidth atm
:(

Hi all,
Thanks Troy, definitely come and check out the studio to take measurements
for a rack.
I'd be happy to show you (and anyone else who is interested) how to use the
studio to broadcast live to radio.sudoroom.org at any time! Definitely need
to schedule group trainings sometime soon. (This is also relevant because
we've been talking about scheduling oral histories - which we still need to
do!)
All of this reminds me that anyone from the Oakland Wiki community who
wants to learn how to …
[View More]broadcast live (read Oak Wiki entries, hint hint?),
just let me know and I'd be happy to show you how (we can even do this
during or before one of the Thursday meetings if there's enough interest).

hi all,
radio room is clean, spiffy, and ready to use. for real this time.
i am ready to help any of you or small groups of you (however many will fit
in the studio) learn how to share audio on the livestream.
i've also written some documentation that should ideally help anyone get
started livestreaming on their own and provide them with detailed
instructions for troubleshooting the most common problems encountered:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Sudo_Radio
next step is to keep doing trainings …
[View More]until all of you are happy with your
competence levels and to start scheduling shows. we're currently using this
sadly neglected spreadsheet to do show scheduling (
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApmrUsz7z5DodDVaZnJ4TW1ndC1jd1…)
but alternative scheduling ideas are welcome.
- marina
ps - you may have noticed that i have only spoken about livestreaming thus
far and have not mentioned recording or producing. this is because for now,
we've had more interest in livestreaming than in doing audio production, so
i've been focusing on getting that ready for people to use, but the next
step is production...and anyway, audacity (audio recording and production
software) is installed on the studio computer, so you are welcome to futz
with it to your heart's content.
pps - the documentation needs a bunch of images and formatting cleanup. i
am working on this.
