As an SR supporter, but non-member, I am always a little reluctant to
comment on this type of thing.

In this case, though, Patrik's comment is so exactly correct and so to the
point that it would most judicious to heed it.

Conflict avoidance seems to me to be a main driver in the behavior of many
SR founding/core members (a mainly good thing), and I interpret the
decision to count abstentions as No votes to be symptomatic of that.  But
there are some conflicts that simply cannot be avoided, and as Patrik has
pointed out, there are well-known, well-formulated ways of dealing with
them in situations that require votes.
