Hello Jake,

Thank you for getting back to me. We would love to come check out the Sudoroom and see your robot in action. Let me tell you a little more about us. Civicorps is a charter school as I said in West Oakland but we are really more of a youth development agency. We work with youth from 18-26 to help them work towards their high school diploma. We have both academic and work training components and our students do conservation work all around the area. Our students graduate based on a portfolio system and their requirements include various writing, projects, public speaking and presentation skills, community service and positive work experience as well as traditional testing. A little over a year and a half ago I got stuck on the idea of bringing more technology and maker projects into our curriculum. I have been experimenting with electronics and robotics (and a small bit of programming) during the 3 hour Friday seminar that I teach. Currently, we are doing a robotics !
seminar and I am using the Arduino platform to give students a taste of programming. We assembled small electronic cars that can be made to be Arduino compatable and our next step is to get them up and running with some code. This is the second time I have done the seminar and its evolving. I have also taught basic electronics twice and plan on doing a code seminar in December.
All of this said, I have to admit that I am not really a techy. I'm trying to learn as I go and mostly tapping open source communities and trying to empower students to do so as well.

This is what I am interested in for this term: I would like to my students on a field trip on Friday December 11 to give them a taste of what is going on in their community in terms of robotics and tech. The Sudoroom was my first thought since you guys are fully run by community members and embody the spirit of citizen science. The seminar runs from 9:30-12:30 on Fridays and I have 12 students. This may not be a time that you can host us but I would still love to hear more about what you do and talk about how we can work together.

I am also interested in coming next Tuesday night to check out Hardware hacking and I will try to bring some students along. I am sending a link to Civicorps web page so you can read a little more about our amazing students. I would also be happy to show you around some time if you are interested in coming by to see us
