Happy Monday everyone!
I want to provide an update that we will be pushing back tomorrows building
gathering to the following Tuesday, April 1st from 5:30-7 pm (see the
attached flyer) Please encourage as many past and present Omni members to
attend!
In light of this change, I will also be extending office hours [SIGN UP HERE
<https://calendly.com/valerie-thecalli/30min>] for this week so that we can
get as much input on the Building Rules as possible. If those times lots
don't work for you but you are interested in meeting or going over the
document via phone I am amenable to that. Please tell all of your
participants and group members to submit a response through the FEEDBACK
FORM <https://forms.gle/hEJhREnduWD4im8L8>. You do not have to submit your
name and email address if you don't feel comfortable and would prefer to be
anonymous. I welcome feedback in all forms and want to help meet people
where they are. If there are opportunities to outreach about the feedback
form and upcoming gathering at your groups upcoming events please let me
know.
Note that after this review process once any updated edits are made, the
Building Rules will be going into effect. While there will be annual
reviews and edits may arise when major changes come up, this is still the
ideal timeframe to voice your perspective and engage with the content
before it starts getting implemented.
I look forward to hearing and seeing more input come through.
Take care,

Hello Omni Commons building community.
Happy New Year! I hope 2026 is a life-affirming year for us all.
After a prolonged release, this is a longer newsletter than anticipated so
if you’re short on time please skim to the highlighted areas.
It has been two astronomical seasons since I wrote you all last. My new
year's resolution is to send more frequent email communication to you all.
While I still encourage those who want regular building matters, engagement
and dialogue (with myself and others) to join the Slack (invitation here
<https://join.slack.com/t/omnicommonsbuilding/shared_invite/zt-3mes98avq-re0…>)
I understand that platform will not serve everyone who wants to hear
updates.
I will aim for bi-weekly with a minimum of once a month moving forward
(just barely made it) If you are not interested in receiving this
communication please let myself or your orgs communications moderator know
and we will do our best to accommodate.
2025 30-Second Recap: The CALLI team worked through kinks and further
clarified its relationship to EBPREC governance, and developed initial
infrastructure for building stewardship: building rules, directory, and
protocols.
We accomplished various building improvements such as a roof replacement,
southside exterior wall install, upgrade to the building’s water line, gas
meter relocation, HVAC servicing, and front door access control changes:
ADA door operator plus Brivo mobile passes/key cards. The entrance hall
floor was finished with matching commercial VCT and basement windows were
repaired. A cease and desist on the ballroom that we inherited with the
purchase was cured in July of 2025 opening the possibility for larger
events, and in December we agreed to forgo the welfare tax exemption for
the ballroom space which creates many more opportunities in the future.
What’s New with CALLI
Stewardship Pilot: In November we kicked off an Omni Commons Stewardship
Pilot Program. This is a partnership between CALLI (where I am the program
manager representative) and eight members of the EB PREC Community Owner
base interested in hosting free public events or projects at the building
to activate spaces and increase community member visibility at Omni. Their
gatherings, performances, workshops, and community work parties have kept
momentum going in the building while we've been under capacity and my
attention has been focused on facility improvements.
Below are the photos of the participants, they have and will continue to
hold activations through the third week of March. Details will continue to
be posted on Slack, feel free to engage with them just like you would
members of the building’s legacy groups.

Introducing CALLI’s Event Manager: We recently onboarded Jasmine
Stallworth, our new part-time Events Manager. If you see her around the
building feel free to say hello. She will be the primary team member at
events moving forward and is being trained to take over the event booking
process. Event requests are still being managed through the google intake
form <https://forms.gle/GbrokoLyxFuHYwCn8> but communication with Jasmine
can also be directed to events(a)thecalli.org. Cheers to more people
activating Omni in 2026!
Welcome Lauren Kennedy - Admin Associate
EB PREC has also hired a part-time staff member to take over the position
that has been vacant since October with Hiroko’s transition. Lauren has
limited hours dedicated to Omni but she will be managing the
admin(a)thecalli.org email address and will be supporting monthly rent
payments in the future.
Omni as an flourishing event venue gets some additional TLC:
We also have a bonus team member Jermey Redford
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremyredford> who has joined us as a
consultant that is helping us build out the operations and capacity to be
financially self-sustaining as an event venue space. He is focused on
helping us develop larger and more revenue generating events in the
ballroom to ensure that the building can be financially stable. HIs
participation on the team is helping us move forward with ballroom
improvements and will revive conversations and next steps regarding a bar
redesign process and finishing upgrades to rentable spaces.
Lastly, EB PREC is Hiring!
Many of you may have noticed that EB PREC is looking for a Community
Stewardship and Property Manager
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1H8JlNu5O86Q9DaAjYEPgnkcA22xacj6r/view>
for Omni Commons. The person hired for this position will be my successor
and the building's primary point of contact. In the Fall of last year I
notified EB PREC that I would not be seeking staff ownership with the
organization which is usually an eighteen month process. I instead opted to
stay on in a short-term capacity during the building's stabilization
period. This means that I will be winding down my time at Omni Commons in
the Spring once they have hired my replacement and there has been
sufficient overlap for them to take over building management and core
responsibilities. The priority hiring deadline was Sunday. However, If you
know anyone that may be interested, please have them apply via the
instructions on the job description BY THE END OF THE WEEK and ping me
separately so I can keep a look out for their application!.
I am also happy to answer any questions or concerns these changes may bring
up. I will make sure to notify the building community if and when I have an
official transition date scheduled. For now rest assured that I am still
very committed to the future of Omni Commons. I am extremely hopeful that
all of this additional people power will support the growth arch of the
building and will enable Omni Commons to reach its full potential.
Key Building Updates:
-
Ballroom floor refinishing started THIS WEEK- Monday, January 26th: We
will be restoring the original maple hardwood floors and surrounding
douglas fur border. Once the floor is sanded down, a commercial grade clear
topcoat will be applied to protect the floor for years to come. The entire
process will take three weeks and we are asking all building dwellers to
refrain from entering the ballroom after the first phase of sanding
which is slated to be completed THIS Friday, January 30th. Any
footprints or blemishes left in the space can have a lasting impact on the
quality of the end product.
-
Ballroom task updates and items relocated: In order to conduct the floor
refinishing work all of the items touching the ballroom floor had to be
relocated. The piano and organ now live on the ballroom stage along with
three of the wall partitions and speakers. The remaining five wall
partitions were cut down and moved to the entrance hall where they will be
used to support increased space usage and layout configuration. During this
two day sprint last week we were able to repair and install 3 new bar
windows with thicker acoustical grade glass, clean the ceiling joists, and
paint around the skylights for further protection of building materials and
cleaner appearance.
-
Exploring Solar: In the Fall CALLI was accepted into the AVA Community
Energy Resilience Hub Initiative. We are receiving technical assistance to
evaluate the cost of installing solar panels + battery storage system that
can help power the building more sustainability on the day-to-day as well
as in cases of natural disaster. More information to come once we are given
a preliminary findings report for their suggestion on the building.
-
Upstairs upgrades underway: We have been working diligently to come up
with a plan for how to improve the second floor so that we can start
outreaching to groups to increase its use.
-
Bathroom: We are near completion on renovating the second floor
restroom which had improper fittings on the toilet fixture that
leaked and
resulted in floor mold and rotting that needed to be replaced.
The bathroom
also needed a facelift in other areas. Due to our limited capacity to
maintain a building cleaning schedule, for the time being that restroom
will remain locked unless part for designated upstairs events or uses.
-
Front Corner Room: This room had wallpaper peeling that could not be
restored and is undergoing a paint job as well as preparation
for a future
wallpaper installation. One of the frosted windows at the front of the
building will also be replaced in the coming weeks to enable more natural
light to come in, and support future aesthetic improvements to
the outside
of the building.
-
Upstairs Flooring: The second floor mezzanine and three rooms
upstairs all need to have the floor encapsulated. After months
of designs,
research, and deliberation we have ordered floor supplies to be able to
schedule the installation with Don Luis in February. Materials will be
coming in over the next couple of weeks.
-
Walls Primed: throughout the second floor certain walls have been
primed indicating where future painting will be done to assist in
brightening up spaces.
-
Stair tread improvements: Are on the radar and the project is being
scoped out.
-
Further Window Repair Installations
-
We have ordered and will be self-installing durable clear glass
windows for the entrance hall, one window in the front corner room above
the entrance on the Shattuck side, and three windows that have
already been
installed behind the bar in the ballroom.
-
Interior door project finally getting traction: As a refresher more than
a year ago we embarked on a process involving architects to create a
planset for adding two interior doors in the building to help streamline
egress and create clear separation of spaces. You may have seen Don Luis
doing demo or framing the openings for the doors. Once Don Luis cements a
leveled landing, and drywalls the openings that were made to cancel an
obstructing pipe, we will be able to call the city inspector in to evaluate
the framing. While the doors have experienced some delays due to lead
times, winter slowdown, and shipping errors I received confirmation that
the doors arrived the the business TODAY (1/28) and will be picked up by
Don Luis next week.
-
Once these doors are installed, the existing openings will be walled
off, and there will be clearer segmentation of spaces. The
hardware will be
a push rim device exiting from the entrance hall toward the side door
egress and will be programmed with a keypad and latch handle to open from
the back hallway into the entrance hall. There will be more
notice provided
before the hardware is installed in the area that is segmented but I want
everyone to be prepared since this will be a noticeable change for
everyone. The side door access control is less restrictive so it will
become much more important to stay up to date on groups membership when
managing this additional door’s access credentials. The few weeks after
installation will be a learning curve, but the next two items will help
improve the transition.
Announcements & What’s On the Horizon
-
Request to direct people to the side door entrance: Thanks to wonderful
volunteers from Sudoroom, the building was able to maintain the old access
control card reader and system on the side entrance that many people are
fond of. The wired doorbell was reinstalled and now rings directly to the
(Sudo/CCL) backroom. The side entrance should be the primary entrance for
members and the broader the community seeking entry to those groups spaces
along with FNB office due to closer proximity. It will be a lot easier for
groups to self-manage door access and will ensure that we minimize
conflicts or confusion at the front door. The address that can be used to
advertise and direct those unfamiliar with the space is 549 48th
Street, Oakland, CA 94609. I confirmed that the address is registered
with the USPS and we had one successful carrier delivery to the side door
based on signage posted at the front door. While organizations do not need
to worry about changing mailing addresses, it will probably be helpful to
post the 48th street address on flyers so that mapping applications
(google, apple maps, waze, etc) direct new people to an easier access
point. Although this recommendation is being made to address past
confusion and event management challenges, the front door is still the
default ADA access point for the entire building and there should be
greater communication among event leads/organizers and the CALLI team to
ensure that the proper leads have the Brivo door access to facilitate
accessibility.
-
Directory Update Request: It’s a new year and we have new people in the
space as well as many more planned to join us as our efforts grow. I would
like for each of the six leased groups to submit an annual directory update
so that we have a more accurate picture of who are designated points of
contact, who are members that may require front space access control, and
when regular scheduled activities/programming are taking place.
-
There are three tabs that should be reviewed and updated on the
corresponding links below. I will follow up for an update on the
status of my request by Friday, February 6th. If your group wants to
talk through it, or prefers to populate it in real time I am happy to
schedule a 30 minute review meeting. If that is of interest, my
preference
is to meet on Monday or Tuesday. Another hope that I have for
this year is
that CALLI can be in greater communication with org leads and that we can
provide training to better align on best practices and both support and
mutually enforce the stewardship pre-requisites and practices of the
building rules.

Potential Volunteer Day Opportunities: As January nearly comes to an end
February is shaping up to be a month of getting building projects through
to the finish line so that the building can move out of the current
stabilization period. Please share this interest form with members of
the building community who would be interested in helping us get fully up
and running: https://forms.gle/v8ycT1nMHzvRts8e6
-
While I had a few volunteer days early on in my role and there have
been supportive community members throughout my time, I wanted to do a
callout to assess interest. These pop-up work days will give us some
insight on how we may roll out a reciprocal agreement process for
subsidized space use in the future. Your engagement would be very
insightful to our team
-
Increased Priority on Cleaning: For this calendar year we are intending
to allocate resources toward cleaning efforts. While the building has
relied primarily on the good-will of volunteers and past building supply
reserves we need to be able to establish a higher level of cleanliness and
facility quality. Starting in February I am setting a goal of scheduling
Don Luis a total of 8 hours a month to support additional repairs and
regular cleaning of common areas most utilized by legacy groups. This will
include creating a maintenance schedule for hallways, the blue restroom,
and the storage and trashroom areas in the Spring. This is another reason
why it is vital that we have a schedule of common programming returned with
the directory request above so that we can better plan for peak usage of
spaces in the building.
-
Future Items on the Radar: As the team grows it will allow CALLI to tend
to other stewardship projects. Items that I and fellow CALLI members will
be pivoting to as the facility stabilizes are:
-
Creating event checklists and protocols.
-
Reviewing and affirming building rule upgrades and training (once my
successor has joined us)
-
Development and implementation of trainings
-
Greater enforcement of the building’s code of conduct and
strengthening best practices
-
Establishing an incident report protocol
-
Solidifying processes for basement and second floor space usage
-
Strengthening and growing the a cohesive building culture
Thank you for making it to the end of this newsletter. I am attaching a PDF
copy for ease of distribution. I look forward to continuing the
communication flow.
In community,

Hi everyone,
After some uncertainty the roofers arrived today at 8:30 am and are
starting on the 48th street corner. Closest to CCL and the disco room. They
will be moving clockwise throughout the building in sections. Most of the
tear down is happening in the next 72 hours and the entire project is
slated to last two weeks. They will wrap up daily by 4-5 pm.
They have a 4 person crew : Cleaver is the Forman, Marcelo, (another
person) and David as the Project Manager.
They are using the neighboring properties' parking spaces to fit their
equipment. I have yet to speak with their Project Manager this morning, but
will get end of day updates starting today.
*Roof work preparation:*
- Avoid parking on Shattuck
- Discourage folks from hanging out outside
- Remove hanging items and things on walls
- Be cautious and move items that are stored too close to one another
that can crash -bump against each other due to unavoidable vibration during
tear off
- Consider wrapping items in a protective material.
- Secure items in bins/boxes that are sensitive to dust
- Place tarps or plastic sheeting to avoid debris and dust falling on
personal property
- Consider wearing an K95 grade mask or higher to avoid inhaling any
toxins from chipped paint etc.
I will be on site early today and tomorrow to offer support to groups that
need it. Feel free to reach out to me on Slack or email to get in touch.

Hello Omni building community.
I hope this communication finds you in high spirits and fully basking in
the abundance of the Summer season. I started writing this communication in
April and after many attempts to pack in more topics, or share the most
updated information, I now find myself at the end of my road on my final
days in my formal capacity. This newsletter is my last formal communication
to you all, but before I go through a list of IMPORTANT building updates
and items on the horizon I would like to address you all and share my
takeaways from the last 20+ months I have been in the building.
I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have dedicated time
and energy toward nurturing the best of what this building can offer for
ourselves and the larger community. I appreciate all who took the time to
converse, teach, and collaborate with me - a person who was here for a
moment in this building’s larger story arc. May our time together be
composted into something enriching to all and in service of a greater
mission and vision for a just world with liberated people.
-
My last day in the building is June 10th. If you would like to connect
before I leave or discuss any of the details in this newsletter I will be
around during Wednesday’s Free Store hours from 3-6 pm.
-
If you are wondering how to get a hold of me after that, for those that
have it my number will stay the same. I can also be reached via email at
togetherwewinagency(a)gmail.com. Let’s stay in touch!
—-----------------
Now we return to our usually scheduled newsletter content. I will review high
level items over the last 4 months and what is on the horizon.
-
Welfare Tax Exemption (WTE) Application was completed in February for
2026. Unfortunately we are in our third year of completing our “first
filing” with the Alameda County’s Assessor's office to determine what our
Welfare Tax Exemption will be for the building. This means we have yet to
see any deduction on building taxes. As a reminder most of the money that
comes in from monthly rent payment is going directly toward property and
business taxes since EB PREC subsidizes staff wages (with the exception of
Jasmine the building’s part time Event Manager.) For the remainder of 2026
all areas of the building with the exception of the ballroom will
continue to need formal contracts and user agreements with a nonprofit or
fiscally sponsored project. Before the assessor ruling they will need to
conduct an inspection to see for themselves how the areas in the building
are being used. In the coming weeks after we complete the big capital
improvement lift, there will be a concerted effort from the CALLI team to
pester the assessor’s office to get someone out here so that they can rule
on our designation by the Fall of 2026. As soon as that inspection is
scheduled there will be communication out to everyone to help prepare for
that date.
-
We said goodbye to Wood Street Commons: At the end of February we
received a notice from Wood Street Commons that they would be leaving the
building to enter into a new lease in March. They secured a different
office space that better supported their current goals and plans to grow.
While they have been missed in the building, they are still a part of the
community at large, and have stopped by to collaborate and connect with
building users. TODAY, June 6th from 1-4 pm they will be hosting an
office warming party if you would like to stop by and celebrate their
accomplishments and transition.

-
Welcome Phil: In March we welcomed North Oakland’s own Philemon Abraham
as the new Community Stewardship and Property Manager. Phil quickly
onboarded and has been juggling a number of new projects and demands with
grace. If you see him in the building please give him a hardie hello and
strike up a conversation if you haven't already done so. He is the point of
contact for building groups and users and can be reached at
phil(a)thecalli.org or phil(a)ebprc.org.

CALLLI/EBPREC Pilot Programming Ended: The Stewardship Pilot with EB
PREC participants focusing on event curation and space activation concluded
in April. This was the first attempt at encouraging members of the EB PREC
community and CALLI network to engage in the space. There was a lot of
learning from this process and plenty of preparation the team has/is doing
to better support future programming in the building.
-
Community Liberation Program (CLP) Boycott Continued: As many legacy
building users are aware, Omni Commons had an active boycott on the
building prior to the CALLI/EBPREC stewardship transition. EB PREC met with
representatives from CLP over various months, but after a communication
hiatus the boycott was reactivated causing harm and taking an emotional
toll on BIPOC members of the stewardship pilot hosting a critical benefit
concert raising funds to release a community member from ICE detention.
Within two weeks a prominent talk with renowned Black Left scholars and
activists switched venues after panelists received pressure to uphold the
boycott. While these actions were disheartening it prompted introspection
among our team and led me to conduct a deeper investigation into the
conflicts that we inherited from Omni Commons. I provided my reflections to
our team and recommendations that I hope are considered into the future.
While I have had conversations with select individuals, if anyone is
interested in hearing my thoughts I am happy to share them.
-
Oakland Theatre Project: (OTP) as a catalyst: This weekend is your last
chance to see The House of Bernardo Alba, the
<https://oaklandtheaterproject.org/house> 11-show play run that has been
happening in the ballroom. This opportunity presented itself in March and
we negotiated the terms of their rental up until their move in date on
April 22nd. Once they made the decision to move forward with an 8 week
buy-out of the ballroom it enabled us to reinvest the funds received into
long-awaited building improvements. While expenses have gone beyond what
came in from the OTP buy-out, the effort to make space upgrades enabled us
to think broadly about future event capacity in the building. The following
high level changes were done from March-May with a level of outstanding
building improvements still set over the next few weeks.
-
Ballroom Improvements completed:
-
Removal of the popcorn ceiling above the ballroom bar
-
Expansion of the wood floor refinishing to the upstairs mezzanine
area and AV tech room
-
Installation of a rigging system to better support a variety of
events with different light and sound needs.
-
Repair of speakers, and enhancement of lighting and sound
offerings to be able to better support events rentals post OTP
-
Bathroom Improvements completed:
-
Updated ballroom restrooms with new fixtures, partitions, hvac,
walls, and floors.
-
Epoxied ADA and legacy groups restroom floors
-
Purchase of additional fixtures and supplies
-
Entrance Hall Improvements completed:
-
Completed repair and replacement of windows near the front
entrance facing Shattuck
-
Removal of acoustical tiles and drywall installation
-
Installation of house and ambient lighting
-
Procurement of a countertop for an entrance hall bar, concession
area, and/or food serving needs for events
-
Additional furniture, decor, and plants were brought in
-
Basement & Second Floor completed:
-
Second floor VCT floor installation was complete
-
Additional functionality was added to the discoroom
-
Second floor CALLI offices were set up
-
Basement acoustical tiles were painted
-
Interior doors were FINALLY installed: I have been mentioning the
interior door project for months, and doors have finally been hung with
door hardware installed. This project had many unforeseen delays, from
product sourcing, procurement, installation capacity and mishaps along the
way. As a refresher we applied for a City of Oakland permit for a two-door
installation project as a voluntary fire safety improvement. The first
(red) door discharges directly from the second ballroom entrance/exit
closest to the microstall restroom. Its intent is to create a clear
evacuation path that is different from the previously existing basement
entrance/exit. The second 4 ft door installed has a big window and faces
the hallway that leads to the storage, walk-in, and trash room area. These
doors have been used on a limited basis, but moving forward we want to
establish some guidelines.
On the Horizon
-
Interior door expectations and use: Now that the door leading to the
back halfway has been installed with a programmable keypad, there is the
opportunity to initiate additional building security protocols. Moving
forward we hope to keep both doors primarily closed. The door that leads to
the back part of the building has a push rim device from the entrance hall
that discharges into the hallway and enables use of the side doors in cases
of emergency. From the hallway back into the entrance hall the door will be
locked. Our primary focus is to restrict access outside of normal
business hours and on weekends which means that the door separating the two
areas of the building will be locked and closed from 6 pm through 9
am. Wednesday-Friday
the door should be closed earlier (~3pm) right before the Free Store is
opened so that it reduces the chance of people wandering beyond the
limits of the Free Store. While this is a different practice, we don’t
anticipate that it should compromise groups use of their designated spaces
or impact programming. Individuals can still use the side door to get to
their destinations and if front door Brivo door access is required there
is one-way access to the back area so it isn’t blocked off.
-
Reasoning and Grounding the Change: I want to contextualize that this
change is coming from a desire to be responsive to feedback, increase
safety prevention measures, and prepare for sustainable growth of the
building. Some examples of that are as follows:
-
All of the groups in the back portion of the building operate outside
of standard business hours with the expressed desire from many to be able
to support 24-hour building access. That type of flexibility is
challenging
to uphold in a porous building and has historically brought about safety
risks, squatting concerns, and other building stewardship challenges and
conflicts. Tightening access points strengthens building security and
reduces risk.
-
Secondly, as we grow, team members and building users will have
higher expectations around the level of building security available and
will be protective of their personal items left in the space. For areas
that are not locked like the ballroom, entrance hall, and upstairs
mezzanine, it provides more peace of mind that we have a process to
minimize unnecessary exposure to theft or loss of personal property. This
strategy reduces safety concerns without compromising existing building
uses in the other parts of the building.
-
Lastly, with the side door operating on the old access control system
and each legacy building group operating different visitor,
volunteer, and
membership management processes, access control remains
nebulous. There is
still uncertainty about who is a member of building groups and who should
have access into the building which can put folks working the
front door in
difficult or compromising situations. Therefore legacy groups who have
vetted their members, volunteers, and users should continue to encourage
entrance and exit through the side door. We want to reduce negative or
stressful interactions and prevent scenarios where event staff feel like
they have to control the door, or event users have to determine who is
affiliated with the larger building.
-
Next steps: Phil will be scheduling a brief safety training and provide
door credentials to the primary and secondary points of contact submitted
to us in February via the building directory sheets. These designated
building leads from each group will be the door access points of contact.
They will facilitate ADA door access, usher general members and users
through if needed, and help maintain the door security schedule outlined.
For those given the code on behalf of your organization, PLEASE DO NOT
BE SHARE THAT INFORMATION WITH OTHERS. Security breaches can result in
loss of credentials or appointed leadership roles.
-
Backhallway upgrades and improvements: In my last newsletter I mentioned
that we would be introducing cleaning and improvements in the legacy group
spaces a couple of hours a month. There has been cleaning in the common
areas and legacy restroom, but with constant building improvement it may
not have seemed as noticeable. In the coming weeks there will be an effort
to renovate the back restroom, adding tile around the toilet fixture, HVAC
that vents out the light shaft, a new faucet, and painting. If you have
suggestions that you would like to provide to that capital improvement
project feel free to share those with Phil when you see him.
-
Name Change & Rebirth: Since I started there have been questions about
the future direction of the building. Our earlier stewardship prioritized
learning and getting the building on stable footing. We experimented, and
envisioned possibilities, but we were primarily slow moving and also
patient with how changes were unfolding with the Omni Commons
organizational entity that still exists. Now with a team behind the
building, and the lessons of the last six months, the CALLI & EB PREC crew
are ready to take their stewardship to the next level and cultivate a space
that elevates our values and attracts more users. The Omni Commons
building will become Revival Hall! A concept deck has been created that
provides more detail on the what and why HERE
<https://www.canva.com/design/DAHLkEq_IG4/JAsDM1QA5FCXFBminoArfQ/view?utm_co…>.
This change will happen gradually over the next year with a soft launch in
the works leading up to a post Oakland Theatre Project event
happening next Friday,
June 12th. This decision will inevitably bring up mixed feelings
depending on your past relationship and affinity to Omni Commons, but the
transition marks the beginning of CALLI/EB PREC’s tending to the larger
vision of a burgeoning community center and venue.
-
Attend next Friday’s Cultural Events Kick-off: In my last newsletter I
shared that CALLI’s bonus team member Jeremy Redford was developing a
cultural event series that brings different artists and cultural bearers
into the building to host culturally relevant events. This Friday is the
first of many. Please consider buying a ticket.
-
Let’s Capture the Buildings Legacy: In the past I’ve brought up the idea
of an Omni scrapbook. Now with all of the painted wallspace there are many
blank canvases throughout the building that create opportunities to
showcase the space's rich hxstory. I was able to purchase a frame for the
original photo of the building that currently lives in the entrance hall.
Let's add to that collection by submitting photos that you have from the
past. Whether it was during the Omni Common’s days or memories of attending
past shows at the Omni, or anything else in between we would love to
collect those memories and preserve those experiences. Feel free to add
pictures to THIS FOLDER
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KOhQcCuXorNwQm2fgG0qA08bsHNkhZd8?us…>
or send them directly to Phil.
Thank you for making it to the end of this newsletter. Don’t forget if you
would like to discuss anything written here I will be in the Entrance Hall
on Wednesday, June 10th during Free Store hours. I am also attaching a PDF
copy of this information for ease of distribution.
Take Care & Be Well!

Hi Valerie,
I haven't looked recently but I don't know if all of those network devices
are rack-mountable. Also it would be possible for us to replace them all
with a single item, my point being there is no need for a "rack", because a
simple shelf would work just as well!
