Hi Ed,
Thank you for doing this. I feel strongly that computers left in public places
need to be usable for basic purposes by anyone without knowing the password
(or the password be written on a sticker right there on the monitor)
that said, now that I hear that these computers are property of a specific
collective at Omni, things are a little different. If that group wants to keep
the computers locked down with passwords that's an issue for Omni to decide
(whether it's OK with their space usage), and if they're open to multi-boot,
the computers should be clearly labeled with the bootup options and procedures
for people wanting to use them.
I feel strongly that any computers that are not in-use should be powered off,
automatically to save power. I'm surprised nobody is talking about this.
Also to everyone else reading, please remember that Ed is volunteering his
services and should not be asked to install Windows on someone else's computer
for any reason.
