Roles

  • facilitator: Andy
  • notetaker: Paige

Membership stats

didn't take notes, but beginning of meeting started with Andy reporting stats on membership in a slideshow

Goals/proposals

  • andy: wants to know if we could shorten the time it takes to become a member. Right now too confusing for new members
  • sierk: giving access right away could cause problems. Can’t remember any issues before in sudo room but in other collectives there have been social problems. maybe temporary key card access?
  • sierk: suggestion -- everyone who wants to speak raises their hand. goes through the stack 1 by 1
  • jonathan: give away laptops as a way to teach community linux/open source software. could pick a day, but need to find people who are interested first
  • andy: chicken and egg problem -- first event usually not well attended. Better to try running it on a night that a lot of people are there already
  • jonathan: flyer or craigslist to find interested people
  • sierk: wednesday would be a good night
  • jonathan: will be out of town, but could start in july?

Event proposal: mechanical keyboard event

Finances

  • andy: sudo room has $2500 target finances, not quite making it. omni finding a new lender is most pressing need right now for sudo room and omni at large. if anyone interested in helping with loan finding, please reach out. we are hopeful, but threatened

Facilities

  • andy: wants it cleaner at sudo room. would like to throw out 1/4 of stuff in here, hire a cleaning person
  • sierk: can you talk about proposal you had about donation process?

Andy talked about how that was just an example of a “monthly goal” sudo room could have. But idea is to have that goal decided as a group. Andy’s goal this month was to make report on membership and contributions. Putting restrictions on donations was another idea, but not fleshed out.

tuesday, always messy after event. wednesday morning, always a lot of stuff laid out on tables.

  • andy: person hosting night should be responsible for putting stuff away
  • sierk: somebody cleans up before monday, I clean up wednesdays. always comes down to 2 or 3 people. we should come up with a different way
  • andy: need clear expectations and easy to follow for clean up. but i want to step back from that because its a big coordinating task
  • sierk: i run into issue of not knowing where to put things back
  • jonathan: ppl need to leave place in state that they found it
  • andy: in other places ive volunteered, host says how long they are there, at end, host asks guests to clean up and leave (or delegate someone to clean up after).
  • sierk: problem, still will come down to a few ppl to clean. no cleaning staff to clean omni bathrooms and common spaces. everybody helps a little bit. remember that the omni doesnt have staff, need more awareness of that so that everyone knows to help with cleaning
  • rajah: tuesdays big event night. ppl walking around everywhere. nobody keeping track of where ppl going. maybe this problem needs to be brought to a higher level.

Goal decided: we would like to discuss cleaning in Junes meeting, and begin implementing some plan in July

should email building committee about getting trash bags **note by paige – can’t we just grab the trash bags in the maintenance closet? Near ballroom entrance, by the ADA elevator

Conversation started about donations, couldn’t hear much so missing a lot in notes...

  • ian: civicore does our recycling
  • andy: many hands makes light work, idea, weekly everyone take like 50 lbs, could empty ewaste by the end of the month
  • rajah: how much does it cost to take all of that stuff?
  • andy: facilities working group, could make a plan, if you want to donate something that takes two hands to pickup, let us know beforehand
  • sierk talked about something in the pile being someone’s ongoing project.. not straightforward to get data off.
  • andy: not clear that someone is working on it. they should bring it home, or store it in area that is personal space is sudo room
  • sierk: if there are more rules then more is hidden from people

Comms

  • andy: does anyone use instagram?
  • ian: romy posts and copies info onto the website

there was a discussion about preference between mailing list and discord for communication. What do we prefer? Not everyone knows about the discord
