Meeting Notes
Intro
- Paige - let's go back to using https://pad.riseup.net/p/sudoroommeeting for notes today. Last time we used a cryptpad on unredacted.org and it had some problems: it acted weird when too many people joined the document, and if one person hit "undo," it would undo someone else's work!
- Ivan - hope to have wiki parties after in the future, or bring back weekly Sudo Room parties
Emailing lapsed members about dues
- Ivan - on our Kanban board of new members, there are some who are stuck at 1 and 2 votes, but havent got the third. My task from last week was to email them to have them come in person
- Paige - Leah has compiled list of canceled memberships or expired cards, email from proton email. not a good idea, need volunteers to reach out to folks.
- volunteers: martin, Jake, Ivan, michaelz, judy, alice, julio
- Julio - maybe we could also ask people to increase their monthly amount, and also those who joined free to pay more as well. If people cant pay, that's okay, but we should ask.
- CC - how many members now?
- Jake - we know how many are paying.
- Alice - should also ask people to bring friends, and ask their employer to match their donation
- Jake - we are a 501c3, so that's possible
- Peter - could we get the people who endorsed the person, be the one's who email those who stopped paying?
- Julio - one note from previous meeting, notion of people volunteering for work if they couldn't pay, I don't like that idea very much, maybe new members if you could say why, we could be super lenient with a minimum amount
- CC - or bring five members and yours is free
- Ivan - I heard 4 volunteers? anyone online?
- Alice - YOu said ew know people paid and in the past, what's teh number?
- Jake - 70 total about last time i checked?
- Michael - One thing i want to remind people about proton mail, you have to use their web client unless we get their paid tier. It's not that hard to use selfhosted sudoroom.org, just setup IMAP and people can connect to it via their email client such as Thunderbird
- Jake - we're not doing that, we're using the domain name
- Ivan - This can be tabled for next meeting, now we are just using our own emails
- Peter - at our repair events, I have people register. From 2025, 2024, 2023, we have 78 unique people who came to sudoroom for a repair. Our social contract with them was not to hound them for money, but given the dire circumstances to sudoroom, I would be willing to email them to basically say - sudoroom helped you, we need your help now. I think we get to do this once. I'll do it from my fixit clinic account. I'm expending the social capital of fixit clinic to do this. I'm bringing this up - if you really want us to do this, we can do it once
- julio - if i had came to the fixit clinic, whether my stuff got fixed or not, I would be so happy to help. I wouldn't consider it bad taste to ask. I appreciate you offering.
- Peter - I saw people come in, in the past, would not have anyone say hello or offer to help them. The grantor came once, and was not welcomed.
CISCO funding opportunity
- Ivan - cisco has offered to fund their employees time as fixit coaches.
- julio - we can be selective, but this seems like a good idea
Member Matters migration progress
- martin - rechner helped us get a staging instance set up. Somethings wrong on the production that we cant replicate. Jake was saying there probably is some bad data in the database. We are going to try and make a backup, and starting from scratch
- Ivan - do not think we will make our deadline by the end of the month
- Jake - sudohumans is working, so it's alright. We've got a lot of people in a chat, along with rechner from pawprint prototying, who is a developer for membermatters. They are very talented engineers.
- Julio - where are we hosting these?
- Jake - digital ocean. Okay with changing it
- Peter - how do people do a one time donation?
- Jake - https://sudoroom.org/donate
- Alice - do we have Zelle?
- Paige - no. I think we would need our own number. But I can look into it
Discourse forum for sudoroom?
- judy - I want to do it. Probably will host on digitalocean. Its open source forum software with private, group, and chat. Mainly for forums, very fully featured.
- Michaelz volunteers to help

- This link is viewing only, contact members for edit access
New members (Jake, Ivan)
- jake lists people with 1 endorsement.
- jake - asking people could share an image, doesnt necessarily have to be a photo. We could print it out and put it on the wall. For people who want to opt into that, it could help them get endorsements faster.
- jake - we are also overdue editing the application form, on the membership page. We should add a question (optional) - describe yourself, so people can recognize you when looking at their membership application.
- cc - could be some way to know if someone is a member too.
- michaelz - now that we have recurring meetings, we can invite them to the meeting to get to know people
- julio - I think it is better to have them come to our recurring social events. Since that is easier to get to know people
Cleaning Party/Sale Event
- Ivan - cleaning party is added to the calendar. And maybe the cleaning party can end with a sale. I think we should try and do this once a month. It's happening, but people are coordinating ad hoc
- CC - how about a set date?
- Peter - plus coordinated advertising across allllll of our platforms
Lunar New Year Potluck 2/17
- judy - bring food. It's the year of the horse. Just want to put that on everyone's radar
Thursday night
- judy - combo wiki editing, stitch & bitch, LLMs. but after Ivan said "hey let's revive sudo room party" i was like "ok thursday should be the weekly party" lol
Hosting the high schoolers over winter break
- judy - went great! 4 days. They are very self-sufficient.
- Peter - great work, more of that
we now have 2 mesh radio devices
- judy - 1 is called SuMe and it is a Meshtastic base node. It has a wiki page: https://sudoroom.org/wiki/SuMe:_Meshtastic_Base_Node The other is a Meshcore repeater. Jack showed up Wed last week, and did an impromptu presentation on benefits of meshcore over meshtastic. The Meshcore repeater he donated is inside Sudo Room, up high by the big round dish. The meshcore repeater needs a wiki page, so we will work on that in the upcoming week.
3d printers
- judy - could we get the wiki updated? What printers are working?
- CC - artillery is working
- ender is also working
- Avery is okay with people using the Bambu in the space. But do not take it out. Or hack it.
- Ivan wants some help installing the slicers on the laser computer
