Testing satellite dish links today

Just a reminder that those of us who are interested are meeting at 5 pm at sudo room today and heading down to lake merritt to see how far we can make a connection across the lake. We're using two satellite dishes mounted on small platforms, each equipped with an aiming device and a wifi usb adapter. The wifi usb adapters are 802.11b/g/n compatible and claim to be 1 watt: http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Antenna/dp/B006JWMO… So far they seem to at least be better than my laptops built in Intel wifi card. -- Marc

Seattle mesh group

I was talking a bit to the Seattle meshing group the other day, and they have some interesting info on their wiki: https://wiki.projectmeshnet.org/Software_Projects https://wiki.projectmeshnet.org/Projects https://wiki.projectmeshnet.org/Hardware I'm not sure I believe the claims of 15 km or 3-10 km. Maybe in a theoretical ideal situation, but definitely not in an urban setting. In any case, we should see how far two Ubiquiti Nanostations can link in an urban setting.
