peoplesopen.net is now available in sudo room, meaning that the
peoplesopen.net wifi in sudo room is connected to the rest of the mesh.
Daniel and myself took advantage of this to remote-reconfigure his home
node to change which ethernet ports are used for which network.
Started documenting the Omni wifi network as we finish configuring the last
routers:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Mesh/OmniWifi
Will came by and we crimped an outdoor ethernet cable for his extender node
that he is mounting …
[View More]at his new location close to Omni.
Realized that we don't have anymore shielded EZ-RJ45 plugs for CAT6 and
trying to fit the thicker copper through CAT5 plugs is a pain. Ordered CAT6
version.
Talked about renaming the peoplesopen.net ssid for 5 GHz to
peoplesopen.net-5ghz since some operating systems seem to prefer 2.4 and
e.g. network-manager's UI seems to not have any way to connect to the 5 Ghz
peoplesopen.net at all! Getting more clients on 5 GHz might be good or bad.
Made the switch for Omni at least since those routers are all hard-wired.
Talked about setting up a GSM network at Omni using the new donated SDR
gear.

Just a quick update from tonight's meshup.
Daniel and Will were here and two new folk came by who have previous mesh
experience, especially more high end private mesh setups. They said they'd
be back and talked about writing up a guide to openwrt compatible mesh
hardware in the post-new-FCC rules!
We got Will set up with a MyNet N600 and a Picostation 2 and he's going to
come by on Thursday and crimp a cable for his rooftop node. He is now
living even closer to Omni and it looks like he has …
[View More]line of sight between
the apartment complexes!
Will took the opportunity to write down every step of the flashing and
configuring process and will be updating the walkthrough on the wiki!
The SSL cert on secrets.sudomesh.org had expired (it's used for the
makenode database) so I updated that.
We also shared some pizza and used the CCL model of just putting out a hat
for pizza money which ended up recouping all but $1 of the cost :)

If you want to help us get more of those nice cheap mesh routers from woot,
they're currently allowing the purchase of 4 units per customer.
The total cost for 4 units including shipping and tax is about $49.25
If you order to your own address and bring them in then we can paypal you
the money!
First add two of this to your cart:
http://computers.woot.com/offers/wd-mynet-n600-2x2-wireless-n-router-50
Then add two of this to your cart
http://computers.woot.com/offers/wd-mynet-n600-2x2-…
[View More]wireless-n-router-51
Then check out.
These have internal antennas only but they have u.fl plugs inside of the
case if you want to attach better antennas. Other than that they are the
same as the TP-Link N600 routers which go for about $40
Thanks in advance!
and do let me know if you still need money refunded for helping us in this
way previously. Remember to include your paypal email address.

If someone from sudomesh could start a pad for writing a collective
response, that would be great. I'll have some time on my nightbus ride to
Berlin tonight to pitch in but will be unavailable for the next 8 hours.
Cheers,
Jenny
