Hi all,
Here’s my contribution to the flyer discussion - feel free to print and distribute!
I’ve also started a planning doc to coordinate everything for the workshop and make sure we’ve thought of all the details. It’s pretty skeletal right now, but I think it will be good to have all the planning info in one place: https://pad.riseup.net/p/byoi_program <https://pad.riseup.net/p/byoi_program>

This time $15 a pop from Groupon _but_ you get free shipping and you can
buy 5 per person instead of Woot's usual 3. They end up about $16 a pop
with tax.
I just ordered 10. I encourage folks to order 5 each to your own address
and bring them in. The mesh will buy them from you.
They also have the N750 version for $20 which has gigabit ethernet and
which the mesh firmware also supports, in case someone wants a slightly
better one for their own use.

Today we made four stands for demonstrating mesh mounting. On two of them
we mounted a directional nodes to demonstrate an active link. The other two
will be used to demonstrate how to assemble and mount a node.
Thanks to Eve, Andrew, jefdaj and Jenny for coming by and hacking on mesh
stuff!
I just finished repairing our two donated defective netbooks and setting
them up with lubuntu. We can use these to demonstrate the active link at
the workshop!

The Omni event schedulers had and event that somehow hadn't made it onto
the calendar which conflicts with our original workshop date.
The new date is *Saturday 18th of March from 1 to 4 pm*. Another event will
be needing the space in the evening so we moved it back one hour.
We talked about this this past Tuesday and it was confirmed a few days ago.
I apologize for not sending out an email immediately.
In other news: As Jorrit noted Groupon is now allowing purchases of 10 My
Net N600 …
[View More]routers at a time. This change also means that you can order again
from the same account, so if you already ordered 5 units you can now order
another 10.
I only have an approximate count of how many have been ordered by various
people but I put the estimate around 70 units right now. I think we could
stand to have a stock of 100-120 units.

I talked to Monkeybrains and Comcast today.
Monkeybrains are coming to West Oakland in a couple of months and I told
them about the Omni and that we could maybe come to an agreement if they
want to put in fiber and service the neighboring apartment buildings. They
noted it down but seemed only slightly interested and said to check back in
two months.
Comcast claims to have a 2 gigabit connection available at the Omni
building. It would cost $1k in installation and $320 per month. They have a
…
[View More]separate team that deals with gigabit and that team will call me in the
next two days. I'm going to get them to send me the contract so we can
check it over before signing up, but this seems like a really good way to
go until we can find something better.
