A few people asked me about the net neutrality event at the Internet
Archive.
I'm not sure I summed it up well enough, so you can see for yourself if you
like.
The video is here: https://archive.org/details/NetNeutralityEvent%20
Panels' advice was: call your Senators, ask them to tell Ajit Pai to stop
his proceeding to repeal net neutrality rules. In other words, leave things
*as they are*.
That's it in a nutshell.
Could someone, please, check and report back if PON is in fact down?
Thanks!

Subject: Monitor is DOWN: PONExitNode2 (Aug 06, 2017)

Hi,
The monitor PONExitNode2 (Aug 06, 2017) (http://45.34.140.42) is currently
DOWN (Connection Timeout).

Hey y'all, would anyone be interested in trying to provide WiFi to
homeless encampments?
I realize right now we are focused on building the network, but when we
are ready, I think serving homeless encampments would be nice because it
would be a great service for people with (potentially) a low cost for
us. There are several encampments around Oakland that are in strategic
locations for nodes to, like MLK and Grand, Broadway and 7th.
Does anyone know of good potential locations?
Cheers,
City council will be voting on a proposed shelter crisis declaration on Oct
3rd - intro of the proposal is taking place at tonight's city council
meeting. This would ensure a cessation of evictions of camps in sanctioned
spaces. I know they just shut down the camp at San Pablo & Grand, and
purportedly the one at 6th & Brush this morning. We could definitely reach
the folks under the overpass at 35th & Adeline/Peralta.
However, First They Came for the Homeless at the Here&There signs is
sanctioned by Berkeley, and we have contacts there requesting a node. We
may be able to reach them from a friend's house slightly northwest. I will
follow up inabit.

I printed flyers, will put them up in the coming days (Temescal, Elmwood,
south Campus, downtown Berkeley).
(If I put them up more than a week in advance, they will be covered by
other flyers ;| )
I'm planning to go to the net neutrality rally at Galvanize (6-7pm).
Thanks for the reminder about Noisebridge, I will try to be one of the
first 150 people :)
