MESH THE PLANET!
As a followup to the Internet Archive's Decentralized Web Summit (https://decentralizedweb.net), members of Sudo Mesh (https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Mesh) will be hosting an unconference to bring together the decentralized internets community in the shared spirit of meshing the planet!
What: Lightening talks / hackathon around building and deploying the decentralized web
When: Saturday, August 4th, 11:30am - 6pm
Where: The Omni Commons' Sudo Room and/or its ballroom, located @ …
[View More]4799 Shattuck Ave, Oakland, CA
Roughly half a mile north of the MacArthur BART station, ~20 mins from San Francisco
LIGHTENING TALKS
Give a 5-min talk about anything related to decentralized/mesh/community networks. Such as — decentralization/wireless tech, community/wireless networks, democratizing/saving the web, tech for social justice/equity, inclusiveness/exclusiveness of decentralized tech spaces, etc.
We especially welcome underrepresented perspectives on these topics.
HACKATHON
Have an idea for a service or app that could live on a mesh network? Or have a project that you've started but could use some help to make some progress on? Come propose it to fellow attendees and maybe you can convince others to work on your rad project.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
If you'd like to participate and help organize event this Saturday, please come to the weekly SudoMesh/PON meeting upstairs at the Omni at 7:30pm. Otherwise, just show up on Saturday. We need help with the following:
* Front desk — welcome people, sign them in, answer people's questions
* Set up — it officially begins at 11:30, so we'll need help setting up the ballroom space anytime between 10-11.
* Clean up — event ends at 6pm and we'll need help getting the ballroom clean and back to the way we found it.

I’ve worked for them as a tech and am still on good terms with them. They’ll train you, but the job is a mix of a little networking and some light construction. Experience with either is a big plus. You spend a lot of time in SF traffic, but you also get a lot of great rooftop views. Pay depends on experience but probably starts somewhere 18-20ish if no experience. Don’t take my word on that, though.
It can be stressful, but it’s also a really fun job. I’m happy to answer other questions; just …

1. BYOI Office Hours this Sunday, 1-3pm-ish (Seth Carolina)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey folx
Build Your Own Internet Office Hours is this Sunday!
Unless there are any node mounts in the works I propose a
sudopad brainstormathon for the next BYOI Aug.5.....
I'll bring snaxx.
---
** What are BYOI office hours? It serves two purposes:*
*1. A jumping off point for people interested helping with a scheduled
Sunday node mount, but who are not able to attend a Tuesday night meeting
or are not "in the know."*
*2. A friendly time for new people to get oriented to the project or just
ask general questions about networking, the internet, and their service
provider.*
*We may also use the time to hold training sessions on a topic of choice,
conduct outreach to potential node locations, address finances and
purchasing, or tackle any other outstanding issues.*

I just saw this - am on my way to something bcos I hadn’t seen anything
about Sunday in Signal as of this morning.
(Also I just somehow mistakenly left sudomesh-urgent, I think I need to be
Re-added unless this group was just for the museum trip)
Hey!
More Build Your Own Internet Office Hours* this Sunday per usual.
During the Tuesday meeting, it sounded like there were several leads on
places that are ready for a mount, so it's likely a group will go out to
install a node! Details TBD.
There's also an FAQ in the works (see https://peoplesopen.net/pad/p/faq) --
maybe we'll have enough time to polish that off and make it live.
And lots of event planning to be a part of... 🐩
Hope to see you there!
