here's the text translated from the attached HTML:
Hi all,
There is a small, urgent gig in the next few days for an activist
organization fighting climate change.
Pay is about $1000, and needs to be ready for Sep 8th.
It involves the following:
We need a DD-WRT router to be configured to serve a captive portal (our
static campaign page) *without* a WAN connection. We can supply the router.
We need you to configure it. Specifically: Installing and configuring a
lightweight web server on the router (lighttpd seems to work) to host our
page. Configuring the router's firewall to forward all incoming
requests on ports 80 and 443 to the web server. Configuring the
router's DNS and DHCP handling to redirect requests back to the router.
This thread should offer useful guidance for someone who's skilled on
the UNIX command line.
That's the basics.
Useful bells and whistles include logging how many users see the page, and
configuring the web server to (securely) log entries to a form on the page
(our campaign petition).
Contact Brant Olson with any interest - brant(a)engagementlab.org

Thanks all,

Hey all,
What do ya'll think about setting up a couple of development VPSs from the
sudo mesh budget?
I'd like to go for one or two of something like this:
- ~$2 / mo for (either)
- 2 CPU Core | 512 MB RAM | 30 GB Storage | 1 TB Bandwidth | 1
IPv4 | OpenVZ & SolusVM
- 2 CPU Core | 512 MB RAM | 20 GB Storage (SSD) | 1 TB Bandwidth |
1 IPv4 | OpenVZ & SolusVM
I'm putting some attention in on the exitnode provisioning (and therefore
server provisioning in general).
I was thinking about setting up some in-person machines at sudo room for
developer training, development environments, testing before deployment,
etc. Marc pointed out that the power consumption of such a machine would
probably not be worth it given the low cost of a VPS. However, I still want
to streamline the process for facilitating new developers to build a
smaller version of peoplesopen.net network, and to provide testing
infrastructure to maintain reliability and up-time.
I updated this page on the wiki, please contribute:
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Virtual_Private_Server
// Matt
made some minor updates, cleanup:
https://github.com/sudomesh/exitnode/pull/1
Next steps:
* Configure & deploay a sample exitnode for testing
* Also configure a test node (2.4ghz wireless device)
* Perform tests to verify system functions, use for testing before
deploying to live server.
* Configure such a system at sudo room for regular usage

Daniel,
I found a PDU in a dumpster at a data center. It is a Power Tower from
Sentry.
PTXM-VO16-1-05
There were others but I only grabbed this one for sudoroom. They cut the
cords when they retired them, but I think it's NBD to wire up a new one.
Can't stay very long tonight, but after the weekend I can put a new cable
on it.
BTW, A fellow named Whitney was here asking about power distribution and at
the end of the conversation there will be 2 - 4X wall sockets on the back
walls which, together, will provide 30AMPS.
Later,
Chris.

(510) 409-0003 - mobile
Hi friends!
As some of you know, I recently started working with De Novo Group, a
non-profit composed principally of a bunch of CS researchers out of UC
Berkeley.
One of our core projects is called Rangzen. It's a mobile messaging app
that works over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct to forward messages anonymously
over time. It uses mutual contacts to prioritize messages based on trust
(this is done using crypto to secure the actual identifying information of
mutual contacts).
It's early beta right now and very experimental. The current version of the
app shows you where you've been, and drops pins when it discovers others
using the app nearby. The GPS tracking would be disabled in the final
version of the app - for now, we're using it to study how mobility patterns
affect the exchange of information within the mobile mesh network it
creates.
*Want to help? Download the app here: http://www.rangzen.io
<http://www.rangzen.io>*
We're batting around ideas for a possible game as a large beta test, like a
scavenger hunt of some sort. The next feature to be rolled out in the
coming week or two is the ability to share and read messages. If you have
any ideas for an adversarial game that could replicate a censorship
scenario, I'd love to hear them!
Happy to answer any questions, receive and forward any feedback!

Hi!
There's a community potluck starting in half an hour at the Omni - come by
and bring or share in food, drink, and general Omni goodness!
Potluck goes from 6-8, mesh hacknight starts as always at 7:30, loosely

So we got an old ~70 foot 5-segment telescoping antenna tower. We (jake and
myself) picked it up out in Modesto. With gas it cost us $145 so far. We'll
need some guy wires to stabilize it, which weren't included, so I'm not
sure what the final cost will be.
I'm proposing that sudo mesh buy it and that we mount it on the building
owned by Jake and Lilia in West Oakland (where me and Jenny are currently
renting a room) and put sector Rocket M5 routers on it with sector
antennas. It's a very flat area with few tall buildings.
What do you folk think?

Dear mesh folks
Here's a first iteration of the mesh video. It is still a bit clumsy, but I
thought I'd show you this first stage and call for your participation!
Please do make comments and suggest images!
http://youtu.be/qva1SQSBDyE
Here is what I feel needs to be done, let me know if you want to help in
any of this or just give ideas and feedback!
- Make the background in the animation white - I've been exploring keying
and compositing but still searching. If anyone knows a fcp X expert I'd be
happy!
- Replace the shaky images or stabilize them in after effects.
- Replace the images of "underserved communities". And i'm unsatisfied
with pretty much the choice of images starting from "though it's connected
to the internet as we know it now, we're excited to build an internet of
our own..." So feel free to suggest things!
- except for the human who loves climbing :) But there is a need to find a
better resolution. The film is called *Never weaken* and is in the public
domain. I wanted an image of *Safety last!* but it's copyrighted to the
teeth.
- I would need to find the font that has been used for People'sOpen, so I
can write things in the end. On the wiki it says Doris and Anaheim but it
doesn't seem to be it, or is it?
- More and better images of tide pools being used.
- Better sound effects?
- Finally, there is text that I haven't edited in although it's awesome,
because we need to shoot it, and have a different mesh person say each of
the items that are listed. I can shoot it when I come back but feel free to
do it if you're inspired! The camera is available.
here is the text:
"we're excited to build an Internet of our own where people can access
local applications, like a map of gardens, garage workshops and local
businesses, a calendar of nearby events, a media library of music and
videos created by Oakland residents, and neighborhood bulletin boards,
further connecting us to our city's resources and culture."
Cheers

I'll be there next week both nights to bang this flyer out.
Also, in reading various articles about the Internet Archive wifi
tower, I found this link:
http://richmondstandard.com/2014/02/richmond-free-wifi-project-expand-count…
Seems like they partnered with Building Blocks for Kids
http://bbk-richmond.org/ to get two repeaters out earlier this year.
Anyways, I sent an email to their operations gal introducing myself
and peoplesopen.net mesh... hopefully I can meet with someone from
their group to find out what their roadmap for more repeaters are,
etc. Would someone else from Sudomesh want to join me?
Talk to y'all soon!

SUPER-THANKS to 'Kare Raisu' for bringing the punch down tool and
helping with the first patch panel!
We got the first patch panel completed, and Kare agreed to continue
working on the second one on Wednesday.
The first part took way longer than I expected. Well, it was our first
one ever. We learned lots of little tricks on how to proceed best.
At first it seems like just plug it in and punch it.
There were little unknowns that we didn't know that we now know. :)

I picked up the stickers yesterday and they're everything I ever wanted
and so much more!
Which means that there will be bunches of them for folks at sudoroom on
Tuesday. Or if you're free this weekend and can't wait until Tuesday to
get your hands on some sweet sticker lovin, you can email me and I'll
give you my address/we can meet up at a cute coffee shop in north oakland.
I was also thinking that it would be a good fundraising tool. Maybe I'll
post something on the facebooks and twitters about sending us proof of
gittip donations and we'll send out a dozen stickers to each donor?
Hey Team,
I know a bunch of us have been signing up for digital ocean accounts
lately as testbeds, etc. But guess what?
They have a referral program! For every $25 someone spends that you
referred, you get $25 in credits! Not quite a perpetual motion machine,
but 2for1 aint bad right? The next person who wants a digital ocean
account is contractually obligated to contact the list beforehand to get
a referral code :-)
Max
'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink
No, no, no
Too exhausted to make it by sudoroom tonight. Sorry. See you next week.

Hey folks,
Just a heads up that I ordered 1k of these stickers:
https://sudoroom.org/mediawiki/images/e/eb/High-Res_Wide_Sticker.png
(the border will get cut off a little, so it won't have quite so much
padding on the sides)
They should be ready in a few days.
I'm still working with marc to figure out what the status on the other
set of stickers we ordered is in terms of color space, etc. but I
think we'll have those sooner than later as well!
Hooray meshiness!
