Yar, thanks for you input.
I like your idea too. No, we don't have any hacker asking for it. But I came out w that thought since NoiseBridge donated SudoMesh a couple of hundred of so wireless routers (boards).
Chris, Sudomesh member, would be best to answer the question about who the racks where donated to.
Thanks!

Hey y'all,
I got tripped up by an error in a Makefile for sudowrt-packages and then
noticed Deekoo has a pull request that fixes it (
https://github.com/sudomesh/sudowrt-packages/pull/1).
What's the process for getting this merged?

Just to be clear - were these racks donated to Sudoroom or Sudo Mesh?
If the latter, I'm ok with whatever that group decides.
If the former, I would advocate for keeping them all. I think rather
than selling the rack, we could potentially make more money renting
space for colo servers to people in our community. Definitely more a
long-term than short-term goal, but I don't think we should start
selling off awesome infrastructure when we're just getting started in
our huge new space!
If we were to share with a sister hackerspace, is there one in
particular that wants it?

2014.07.30 Server Room Update!:
Switch Rack(s):
=========
We have installed some switches on one of the three donated racks.
Yes! We have a surplus of two switch racks.
Please feel free to provide ideas on what should we do with them, so far
we have the following ideas:
a) Jeremy suggested that we should sell them, we can use the cash.
b) I suggest that we keep one so we can install the spare switches and
provide a managed switch resset/configuration workshop. And for the
second one, I suggest, we offer it as a donation to other hacker space
as a symbol of solidarity and sisterhood.
Chris, who is the one that donated those two switch racks, said that he
is cool with whatever we decide.
Rack Switch:
========
It is on the way, and it is expected to arrive Thursday or Friday.
The shipping company said today that will call me to arrange delivery
time, so we need someone to be here (Sudo) to receive it.
- -Marc said he could receive it, but only after 5pm, is anyone else
available at earlier time?
If so, please let me know so I can provide you w the info that you may need.

You should definitely come by, especially for our mesh meetings! We've had new members at pretty much every one we've had since moving to the new space.
We're holding them on Tuesdays and Thursdays at around 7 or 8 depending on when folks show.

Hello everybody!
I updated the BATMAN-adv page and I think it would be helpful to take a
different approach to editing the wiki. We should still work on the page on
our own, but I would like to have a page that's focused on every week. I'm
looked at the popular pages on our wiki and that's why I chose this page.
https://sudoroom.org/wiki/Special:PopularPageshttps://sudoroom.org/wiki/Mesh/BATMAN-adv
I most tried to highlight the commands that would be used more often while
also simplifying some of the technical details. All thoughts are
appreciated.
Take care,
Jeremy
Awesomeness: Thanks David K, David ?, Jeremy, and Sally for your help.
That was a lot of stuff!!
The area got 96% cleared up. We moved the 2 Two Posts Racks, and the
improvised server cart holding three two Servers and a Dell Desktop.
If someone could clear up the rest of the stuff would super! What is
left? A black big cabinet, and miscellaneous stuff left on and around
the shelf.
Many Thanks!
p.s. staged-photo ;) hehe
All:
Are you aware of Emery Connect? I just happened upon this pretty randomly,
it's the city of Emeryville's effort to provide fiber connections to all
businesses and homes in that city.
Their "Open Access" page is interesting (quoted below). I wonder if there
might be an opportunity for People's Open to work with them, to get access
to, and across, Emeryville?
*EmeryConnect is an inclusive network available to all Internet providers
and carriers. In Emeryville, businesses can utilize private fiber links,
dark fiber services, as well as a host of private Ethernet and high speed
Internet services. EmeryConnect eliminates barriers to entry for Internet
providers and carriers enabling ultra-high-speed symmetric connectivity to
all residential and business users. More than just creating network
neutrality, our open access network showcases the opportunities and
benefits of fiber optic networks, encouraging the highest levels of service
and competition.*

Hello All,
Just we all know:
DONATION RECEIVED:
We have received a donation of 2 Two Post Racks. Thanks Chris!! The
donation easily saved us about 400 dollars. We only needed one for
production, but Jeremy and I already have discussed how we can use the
second one (training for those who would like to learn how to reset
passwords, erase config files, and or do OS upgrade on the spare Cisco
Switches that we have. :) -Oh yeah... we couldn't wait and installed a
couple of switches on one of the racks! :)
SCREWS AND CAGE NUTS:
Anyhow: for those that know how messy can get with having the wrong kind
of screws and cage nuts: We have narrow it down to have the donated
racks tread as a model to use for the Server Rack square holes. So when
we trying to install a switch or rack mount server/device we won't go
bunkers trying to figure out what screws should be use. The screws we
are using are 12-24.
SERVER RACK STATUS:
And talking about the Server Rack.... Last Friday I checked with the
Vendor and I am glad I did.
There was some wrong info in the billing part of the order, it did get
corrected then. So now that detail got cleared up, the estimate shipping
date is August 16. Yes, until then since this is a back-order.
Thanks!
Daniel
Hey Team,
So it looks like Docker won't be able to load kernel modules that aren't
included on the host system. For a bit more info:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16047306/how-is-docker-io-different-from…http://www.scriptrock.com/articles/docker-vs-vagranthttp://stackoverflow.com/questions/16647069/should-i-use-vagrant-or-docker-…
So that being said, we still have some options. One might be to migrate
entirely to a virtual machine platform. Vagrant seems to be the tool of
choice here.
What seems like a potentially better choice is to run Docker inside of
Vagrant. I know this is starting to seem like a game of those Russian
nesting dolls, but we'd be able to pick the Debian distro we prefer and
start it with Vagrant, and then do the rest of the configuration with a
Dockerfile.
I'm still looking into the options - if anyone else has ideas they'd
like to share, I'd love to hear.
Max
Hi all,
This aired on KALW this morning (even though the web page seems to indicate
it was published last month):
http://kalw.org/post/who-s-using-san-francisco-wifi
Interesting piece, interviews with EFF, talks about disaster response,
self-sufficiency, whether/how city governments should support free
wireless, etc. Worth a listen.

[[User:Peteforsyth]]
Hey folks,
I'm kind of thinking that we should come up with a strategy for our
meetings this week since it looks like sudoroom may not have internet
until next week. One option might be a mobile hotspot sort of solution,
but I'm not sure that'll provide effective access for all of us.
Another might be to migrate elsewhere. Ideally it would be somewhere
close to sudo so that if folks show up there, they'd easily be able to
come over. Arbor cafe is only open until 7, and unfortunately it doesn't
look like temescal is particularly rich with late night wifi.
There aren't a ton of places with wifi that are open late it turns out!
The one that I found was Gaylord's Caffe Espresso:
https://plus.google.com/100504651877741535888/about
4150 Piedmont Ave
They're open until midnight tonight and thursday, but it's a little far
from sudo (about a mile).
Thoughts?
Max
hello y'all
Here is the script for the mesh video.
It's not completely finished and i'd be super thankful for you to do edits
to the script before I start doing the video editing. (thursday probably).
Please look at the riseup pad and make suggestions for changes in the text
or to suggest shots, tell me if it conveys what you think should be
conveyed, and correct my english :)

Hello All,
I meant to inform you earlier, but we have Internet access at Sudo, at
least for today.
I am using my phone hotspot feature and the speed is not bad, 25Mbps
download, and 6.5Mbps upload. I am planning to continue to stay here for
the rest of the afternoon and evening. Tomorrow, perhaps someone else
should be sharing their access.
I have not checked how far the wireless signal goes, but it may spread
to other areas of the building.
The SSID is: SudoerTempNetAccess
Password: sudosudo
Thx!

Hey everyone!
I've been trying to set up the Meraki Sparky board to flash the openwrt
code to it, but when I connect the pins and plug in the usb adapter to my
laptop and run the meraki-flasher script, I get this exception
"SerialException('device
reports readiness to read but returned no data (device disconnected?)')"
and the green led on the meraki board isn't lit. But $ dmesg | grep tty
shows that it's connected.
Does anyone have any ideas as to good way to pinpoint what the issue may
be? Not sure if the issue is the usb adapter I'm using or the board
itself, but I was going to try buying another usb to ttl adapter tomorrow
to see if that helps. Any advice would be awesome!
It was nice meeting you all tonight!

In connection with a research project at the University of Edinburgh to
establish a long-distance wireless backbone to connect community broadband
networks on the West Coast of Scotland.
We are looking for a computer scientist with some practical experience of
computer networking, but who -- most importantly -- is prepared to
learn on the job. We need someone who is prepared to
(1) help design and implement a network that can co-exist with
existing community networks,
(2) help manage and organise the project,
(3) climb up hills and cross the sea, sometimes in unpleasant
weather to help with the physical installation of relays,
(4) document the work and instruct local communities, and
(5) enjoy the fantastic scenery and hospitality of the Scottish
Highlands and Islands and get real pleasure from providing help
to remote communities that are desperate for decent Internet.
For some further information, seewww.tegola.org.uk. Please note that this
position is not yet certain, but we hope to have a better idea by August
2014 and need to start looking now. We are happy to consider part-time
positions or combine with pro-bono support from industry.
If you are interested please contact Peter Buneman by e-mail
