The rapidly growing wireless traffic has a highly heterogeneous nature, ranging from massive video to highly delay sensitive real- time control data.In order to assure the required "quality of user experience" heterogeneous networks concepts: e.g. cellular, WLANs, sensor networks, delay tolerant networksare increasingly considered not only as alternative solutions but as parts of consistent heterogeneous communication infrastructure. This seminar will include discussion of methods and models used for performance evaluation of wireless networks butthe main focus will be on lessons which can be learned outof the performance studies: trends in networks design,opportunities for improving the efficiency of their operation, possibilities for harmonization of applications and underlying networks.
