hi all,
i have a few questions as i attempt to update the wiki, add a new
blogpost (maybe pen an article for an outside publication on the
project), and update an outreach plan.
but i'm dim about what our next goals are and who/where we want to
outreach to about mounting a router.
i'd like to request that at our next thurs meeting we spend the first hour:
-answering a few questions,
-looking at our existing outreach list
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OxG6s1NFAEd9dasX5-…
[View More]Hdrz4jR6IWk9CkQTD…>,
-prioritize it, and
-list what materials we need to update/create to bring our outreach
partners a solid proposal.
would folks mind doing that? i'll gladly facilitate to help keep us on
point and to the point :) i'll also take notes and add the ether pad to
the wiki. this will help me to dig in and hack on our community
organizing moving forward.
also, does anyone here know what parts of the wiki need some love? (we
can also list the outdated pages this thurs in 2015)
excelsior,
april

sounds good - I'll be there on Sunday at 2pm - I'll bring the dish and a
laptop.
I've got a bad knee - so if we need to climb up any ladders or anything
I'll probably have to ask someone else to do it.

Hey all,
I'm back in Oakland and I've got my Ubiquiti Nanobridge M5 ready to set up.
I'm guessing that no one is going to get together on Thursday because it's
new years day.
Is anyone planning to meet up on this coming Sunday?
Also April - let me know if there's any way I can help out with the wiki.
I'm still new to this but I'd like to put some time in to help out.

hello mesh,
i'm going to read digital dead end by virginia eubanks in january. it's
about broadband internet access/equity in relation to questions of
social justice (eg, race, class, gender). i've been wanting to read it
for a couple of years. other mesh projects that I'm buddies have
reported to find her thinking useful and inspiring.

let me know if you'd like to read it too, and we can book club it :)
all my best,
abril
I'm not able to host node-mounting today. Still recovering from sickness.
If anyone else wants to jump on it then speak up!
Status on the Omni roof mount is that John is very concerned about how
we're going to mount the node and it doesn't seem like he's going to let us
do it without having his contractor there (which I expect will mean we'll
have to pay the contractor).
I have now suggested that we use one of these instead:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diamond-Mounts-NPRM2D-Non-Penetrating-…
[View More]Roof-Mount-2-…
and a few sand-bags.
We'll see what he says.

hi there,
writing my first note to the list to say that i'll be at sudo on Tuesday
to help draft a proposal for the omni landlord re: mounting a node.
hopefully we can knock it out then.

Our connection is terrible for livestreaming. There are two possible
solutions I can think of:
1) limiting some large portion of our available upstream to a wired
connection only. not sure this is possible (cc'ing the mesh crew),
2) we could use a portable hotspot. i believe AT&T has good 4G coverage at
Omni, so I can pay a bit more money for my smartphone bill this month and
we can use it as a hotspot.
1 Mbps x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 3 hours = 10,800 / 8bits per byte =
1.3GB of data
…
[View More]Totally doable, though a backup or two would be great!
