This is a false alternative. Other mailing list managers exist, even
other quite modern ones (I think you know about some older ones). For
a modern example see sympa:

I feel quite strongly you should keep a mailing list and not switch to a
web forum platform. There are just too many risks with putting _every_
communication channel inside one program - the browser.
