A trip to show era Japan at our VR workshop

Creating web virtual reality experiences in a workshop atmosphere.

We had an in-person collaborative XR workshop with multiple owners of virtual and augmented reality headsets at SudoRoom. The end result? A delightful simple yet fun walk through an AI created alleyway in Showa era Japan. (You can view it too in your browser or VR headset!)

Process in Whiteboards

We began the event with a whiteboard, and as we’ve noticed, the engagement and excitement is much higher! It’s a nice break from the traditional meetup where we present slides.

It’s a huge problem that there is so much good content online that we just end up the entire session isolated on laptops surfing the web looking at cool examples instead of talking to each other.

During this session we focused a lot on brainstorming, sharing knowledge, and enhancing our different talents. Having both UX and developers speaking to each other, and throwing in some interest in the fine arts was a big plus!

Minimizing the time spent looking at outside projects was also nice, and we got people making their first #webXR pieces quick and easy on glitch. It was also a nice time to sit and talk about APIs, there’s still so much to look through!!!

In the future it would be nice if people from different platforms could “talk” to each other in augmented or virtual reality. For us, this was the first time we could find a way to collaborate and work together as VisionPro and Quest users!
